Subscriptions idea

When you choose to subscribe to a thread you get to choose weather you want the notifications every day, every week, or instant. But they are all via email, there should be an option to get notified via the drop down menu at the top that appears when you get a PM or visitor message.

This sounds familiar, it might've been suggested before, the only one I can find that relates is this one: http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?p=4822293 but that didn't get a response from Management. :(
What yoshi posted would probably be one of the main reasons why this idea can't be added. Some users are very active on here and post in many different threads in all sorts of sections, to get a PM every time someone else replied to one of the subscribed threads would place quite a strain on the inbox of some very active members which would mean the active member would need to constantly clean out their inbox on a regular basis so that genuine PMs can be received. There's also the additional strain on the server, sending an email out to an external source saves a shed load more space than sending and storing several PMs to and from the same server, if this idea could be added there would probably be quite a bit of forum lag; by the time an active member got the chance to read the PM someone else would've posted in the same thread and sent another PM, no one would ever get the chance to post. :P
This is assuming that most people would choose to have their thread notifications sent to them via PM because it's easier than having to check emails everytime one pops up, presumably the option to have an email equivalent would still be there but it wouldn't be used as much as a PM subscription system.
Also, I don't think such a system exists within vB so a hack would be needed and we aren't the biggest fans of using hacks to modify the forum because of the holes in coding that they could open up. ;)
The idea is well liked and if it were possible I'm sure it would've been added by now, unfortunately, with the problems hacks open to the security of a forum and with the potential for unbelievable amounts of lag to plague the forum I can't see this being added. :(

Is it not possible without the PM system? So if you have a new subscribed thread, the notification area will tell you that you have one and then take you directly to the subscribed thread folder, like with the new visitor message notification thing.
