I going to PC World and Currys on Bank holiday monday and i hope to get a new laptop with intel centrino 2. So i am wondering has anyone got it and is it any better then the older version? I kinda having second thoughts because the new quad-core processors are coming out later this year and reports say it will be better than Intel's new one.

Quad cores have been out for about a year now? :S

Centrinos aren't that great tbh.

Also, shouldn't the shops be shut on bank holiday?

centrino's arn't that great as Tom said.. Why not get a current quad core?..

The claims look nice but I somehow doubt there all true..

Intel’s NEWEST and BEST performing notebook technology includes:
• Up to 50% faster performance when multitasking‡1
• Up to 2X greater range and up to 5X better wireless performanceΔ2
• Designed for the longest possible battery life
• Up to 90% faster performance on intensive multimedia applications like HD video encoding‡2

~ Edit: Centrino 2 is just the name of the new laptop platforms.. you can get them in quad core..

I haven't seen a Quad core laptop in the market..

I have an Acer with a Centrino Duo, it's fine.

I seen a few laptops with quads, seeing i seen them about 6 months ago, they should be getting quite popular.

Centrino Duo is the Mobile version of Core 2 Duo. At least, that's what it is called sometimes.

But you can get Core2Duo in laptops....

Quad laptops aren't being sold yet, I THINK. But they will be being sold soon.

Centrino is a platform, not a CPU. It is not the mobile equivilent of Core 2 Duo or any other Intel processor for that matter.

To be branded Centrino (ie, to have that sticker on your hardware), you must have the Intel Wireless card, Intel Northbridge and Southbridge and Intel Mobile Processor. Thus, you can have laptops with an Intel CPU but not branded Centrino because they may use their own wireless card or chipsets.

I think quad-core mobile chips are coming next year, with the release of Nahelm (Core i7) which will be the next big revision of the Core processor series.
