Oh my, i'm shocked to see the playstation 3 80G to be priced at £300 smackers. Im glad i sold my 60G just in time. So will that mean the 60G and 40G will drop in price considerbly.

Good news Hard-core gamers 160G will be out later this year BUT only for a LIMITED TIME ONLY. Roughly 2-4 months.

It's ridiculously expensive I think, more expensive than the PS3 60GB was at launch in America.

I was annoyed at the 80GB not being PS2 compatable, it seems a waste of time; will the 160GB be?

I don't know if you took the time to read about the thread, but this is about the PS3.

Thats probably they have different tax. This is a issue with many products, where there cheaper over in the USA but when they get released over here the price rises. Looks good, I was actually wondering If I should get one. But if i want a Blu-Ray player Sony are offering a slightly cheaper price then the PS3.

I have a 60GB and that is fine.

PS3's are not a waste of money, as you get more for your money. Also to the above post, the PS3 comes with a Blu-Ray player :S?

I think you didn't read it fully. I know that the PS3 has a built in Blu-Ray player. But some people have bought the PS3 for just the Blu-Ray player. But sony now offer a one slightly a bit cheaper then the actual console, if you just want a player and not a game console.

As said, the 360 is 120 and you get the same graphics/features. The only reason the ps3 is £300.00 is because they're brand new, soon they will drop right down like the 360 has.

no its because of the stuff in it.. the 120 xbox is crap isnt it? something like the arcade version or something. It may drop slightly but if u read this email from Sony i got after i asked a question about the new 80GB version, you will see that they talk about cheaper hardware and components. Highlighted in bold.

As with the launch of the 40GB PlayStation 3, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has continued to listen to input from both our consumers and our retail partners in a process that has been ongoing since PS3 launched in March of last year.

As you may be aware, there is more downloadable content than ever before, with the emphasis moving towards user generated content as can be clearly seen with SingStar along with the anticipated release of LittleBigPlanet. As a result, one of the biggest requests that we have seen is for a larger capacity storage device on PlayStation 3. Having taken this information into account, the launch of the 80GB PlayStation 3 will provide our users with more storage space for their downloaded content at the same price as the current 40GB system.

This has been made possible by a continuing reduction in the price of internal storage, and as such SCEE has and will continue to pass on these benefits to our consumers as soon as we are able to do so. As a constantly evolving product, one of the many benefits of PlayStation 3 is that the internal Hard Disk Drive (HDD) can be upgraded at any time by installing a larger capacity drive. Details on how to perform this upgrade can be found in our Online Instruction Manual at: http://www.playstation.com/manual/pdf/PS3-02_03-1.9_1.pdf (http://www.playstation.com/manual/pdf/PS3-02_03-1.9_1.pdf).

It's a shame it isn't compatible with PS1/PS2 games unlike the 60gb model. I was tempting to get the 80gb but I'll stick with my 60gb I think.

I'll be getting it.... for Christmas.
I'll just keep my PS2 if it's not backward compatible.

As far as I'm aware the 160GB will not be backwards compatable. I have no source as this is what I've been told by two managers (I work in GAME).

The 40GB PS3 will not drop in price, Sony are just offering better deals. You can get a 40GB PS3 and two games for £299.99, whereas a 80GB and 1 game will cost you £310, and this is a limited deal I believe.

don't worry, it's only about £40 for 320GB of memory so It may be worth investing in one.

I doubt you paid £600 for a 60GB on release. I paid £425 for mine on release.

Of course the 60GB would be more expensive... It's got more memory. It's the memory which is the deciding faction. The 40GB, obviously, is smaller and worth less than the 60GB one for this reason. Only a small fraction of the price is down to it no longer being available.

I'll just upgrade my memory to something like 120 GB if I ever use up all my 40GB of space. I just need to learn how to install it and move games over, if that is actually possible :P
