I was wondering if anyone could help me point to the direction of installing this OS.

I want to install it with along aside with my XP.

The only problem i'm hearning is that you cannot install it with AMD proscesser? (cba to spell atm). and that i have a graphics card.

Thanks.

Yes you can install with an AMD but its more complicated.

Google "OSX 86 Project" and http://forum.insanelymac.com is brilliant.

You need to download Kalyway 10.5.2 first (I think its AMD compatible, im not sure).

Intel is a lot easier as you can use the Vanilla Kernal (the stock, unmodified Apple one, meaning you can use software update without breaking your OS)

You can install with an AMD processor, you just need to get one with an AMD patch.

Out of interest what guide are you following?

Make a FAT partition using Partition Magic, Acronis Disk Director suite for XP, or the Vista disk manager. Then format that FAT partition as a HFS+ Mac partition in the OS X installer.

Jamesy
24-08-2008, 05:36 PM
then doesn't that break the XP bootloader?

Recursion
24-08-2008, 06:11 PM
Nope, when you install OSX onto that partition it doesn't install a proper boot loader, you just modify the XP loader :)

It's pretty easy to do in XP with thanks to Tawm, however i couldn't get it to work whilst I was dual booting with Vista.

;o didnt know you could install OSX on PCs? Or does it have to be specific specifications?

Stephen!
24-08-2008, 07:37 PM
Although it's OSX, it has to be modified in order to work on non-mac hardware.

the closer you can get to the mac hardware the better. which is why AMD is a bit iffy

The Intel P35 boards with Core2Quads or Core2Duos are great for OS X.

Coincodentally, my P5K Premium/WiFi-AP is the OSX86 lover's motherboard haha

Try searching Leo4all in google

it works on both Intel and AMD (and aparently is one of the most compatable .iso's you can find)

During install just select the AMD patch instead of the Intel one

Sometimes after install some of your hardware may not work (for me it was my sound and wireless internet adapter) You just have to find the correct .kext files for your hardware and install it using kext helper.

Hope this helps. I don't use OS X on PC no more though, it can become very unstable on some systems (for example i couldn't get the graphics card to work, and neither could anyone else with the same one so many programs wouldn't work or would shut randomly) It's good for if your just trying out Mac to see if you like it but in the future you just gotta buy an actual Mac.

A good buy is the Mac Mini, it's £399 from the apple site and all you need to do is bring your own, Screen, speaker, keyboard and mouse and away you go.

Mine works 100%.... :S

Leo4All, I had problems with as I wanted to update it to 10.5.4, but Kalyway on Intel is brilliant as I can use Vanilla kernel.

It really depends on your hardware set up. No other iso would boot for me except Leo4all

I kept getting "Still waiting for root device" i changed loads of bios setting and still didn't work, Leo4all worked first time.

I'm finished with Mac OS X86 now tbh, saving up for a proper Mac now.

For Dual Booting you can use Acronis OS Selector, this Opens during boot up and you choose which Partition you want to loads (Mac or XP) When setting it up you Select a partition Name it and then you can load into that OS

You say you have 2 HDD's are the both in your comp or is one External??

and they both are on my computer

Acronis is with the pirates too :P

Theres alot of downloading when doing Mac cos it's not really compatable with PC so theres alot of work and d/ling

I'm glad they are both installed in your comp, most people who try do it on an external fail, as flash devices are more suseptable to write faliures (don't ask me why)

Still waiting for root device means your chipset isn't supported, probably as its a SATA drive or something, i forget. Try another release like Leo4All or JaS

-Danube-
25-08-2008, 06:37 PM
Leo4All will probs work for him, i had the same Still waiting for root device problem until i used Leo4All, but when i first burnt the DVD i did it on Maximum speed, got half way through install and it said missing files (Like his did) and then when i put the DVD back in it said Still waiting for root device, but when i burnt it again at 2x it worked perfectly.
