Hello guys,
Even though I have been in photography form some time now and photography pretty much anything, today I got my first *proper* celebrity shot, and this one is of Celia Imrie.
For those of you who don't know who Celia Imrie is, it's ok! I didn't have a clue who they were on about, however he work is very recognisable. I am glad to present my first celebrity picture, which I am looking to get into local newspapers and possibly The Sun (awaiting reply).

Worked in programs/films such as: Dinnerladies, St. Trinians, Calander Girls and that program on BBC1 atm with 'Rodney'.

They're only going to use it in the sun if they're going to run a story on her?
PaintYourTarget
24-08-2008, 06:56 PM
The Sun wont use it as it's only her in Focus, not the whole frame. They're about real people in real situations.
Mr.Sam

you don't usually email them photos and they use them, they use agencys such as bigpictures which upload the photos ~10 minutes after being shot and they will bid against other papers for the photos.
DarrenToogood
24-08-2008, 06:59 PM
Doesn't always work like that... also I am going to ring my local paperS which I will have more of a chance at.
Seeing as I was the only 'photographer' there...Also this is just one of the pictures. I took around 50-100 of her to get the best shots.

For a start I am 6ft, so not little.
Also she was more than happy - came over to me, asked who I was working for, asked my name, shook my hand and offered me a loveheart.

Did you just happen have your camera on you when she was there? Stalker xD, or was this some event?
Nice photo none the less. Didn't know she was that wrinkly lol.
DarrenToogood

I was the event photographer for the event, and I was tipped off about her arrival and therefore I went onto the platform and then just advanced ahead of her to get some more pics.

The background
obviously the part thats behind her. anyway, not that great. The hand puts me off tbh
DarrenToogood
24-08-2008, 08:37 PM
The background is meant to be blurry - that is called focusing :S?

Is the background blurry in this pro picture?

No
DarrenToogood
24-08-2008, 08:43 PM
There is no background and that was taken on a different focal length.
Is the background blurry in this pro picture?
http://frillr.com/files/images/Britney-Spears-Paris-Hilton_0.jpg
No
its called distance. you dont need to focus particularly on one point of this photo as you want britney and the other girl in the photo. In the one darren took, the clothes or whatever are far from the actress so focusing on a middle point wouldnt help at all
DarrenToogood
24-08-2008, 08:47 PM
To avoid getting to close, I used my zoom lens, therefore it was focusing on her and not the background. If I swapped lenses and got without a foot of her, it would have been a wide angle shot, and the backgroun would be little out of focus.
TopRed
24-08-2008, 08:49 PM
WHy not just go closer to her then. Your photo looks stupid and is poor.
and ur saying the 'pro' 1 u posted isnt? her hair looks like a second sun and chops of half her arm and head. Had it been a pro photo, it wouldnt have or at least be decent so they look decent. Their still people and things like these push celebs to the edge *hints*
DarrenToogood
24-08-2008, 08:56 PM
That 'pro' image is only good because of what it reveals.
Also it was a private grouping of her freinds, I didn't want to get in her way and spoil it.

The background
It's called low depth-of-field, aka, focusing on the foreground so that it becomes the central point, the focus point of the photograph. To show the viewer what's the main subject. If it was a high depth-of-field, the photo wouldn't be useful unless something interesting was in the background :P
Is the background blurry in this pro picture?
http://frillr.com/files/images/Britney-Spears-Paris-Hilton_0.jpg
No
How the hell are you meant to blur the background when the car, Britney and Paris Hilton are in the foreground? Blurring the "background" i.e. the car would blur out the celebrities :S

If you got a pic of posh and becks, it would be another story.. because people are interested in them...

True, but it wouldn't matter if the background is in focus or not. But the usual technique when taking a photo of 2 important subjects is to have the focus on them and not the background aswell. The same as Darren's photo really. It depends if anything is going on behind them though, some photographers place them infront of an interesting object while some photographers in busy areas will just snap away regardless.

Relatively decent shot, but all it shows is the woman. There's nothing interesting about her, so don't keep your hopes up for newspapers because you didn't catch her snorting coke.
No one is going to buy it: she's not well known, she's not doing anything special and no one wants to write an article on her.

Just casually drop into the e-mail or phonecall about this picture that you think the person in question has had a boob job and you will sell your photo.
what would the article be? "Celia Imrie spotted on the street?"
DarrenToogood
25-08-2008, 07:09 AM
My local newspaper always do articles like this. The story would be something along the lines of 'Celia has birthday bash at steam show'.
Whoever posted 'she is not well known' - You need to watch tele more my freind!

As much as I love Celia Imrie I wouldn't say she was well known. Victoria Wood and Julie Walters, her collaborative partners on the other hand are le famz.

I know in some photos the blur background can be good, as it can show speed. (Aviation photos) But, I thought the photo looks good? Oh well, keep up the work I guess.
Oh, I know who she is, shes the drunken nure in Saint Trinians, well done and good luck on the job :)
The focus and the picture itself are good, just get someone more well known next time.

Bauer (Heat World) will not buy that, they usually just look for there images on google or use user submitted photos. If you want to give it to them for free then email
[email protected], doubt they'll use it though. She's not that big.

If you'd have got a friend to pull down her sumo knickers and then took a picture you would have got something.
