How do i format the file system to "FAT"

Try Partition Magic you can get it from the bay of pirates :P

Just select the partition you want to convert from NTFS to FAT32 and apply, it will prompt you to restart and it will begin on restart, if it fails just try again, it can get a bit tempro

Is this for Mac OS X86 by any chance??

On Vista, just right click the partition and its simple.

On XP use Partition Magic.

You need to format it as FAT32, I just started OSX install on my laptop and verify this.

Do ya mean the Disk management within the Mac OS X86 bootable DVD or the on on windows??

I think if the drive you're trying to format is over 36GB (think it's around that amount) then it won't come up with FAT32 as an option for formatting it. You'll have to use a seperate piece of software to do it.

Ye, it's like that in XP i dunno about Vista though, don't use it. Yet.

Once you start installing Mac, withing the bootable CD it's self there is a disk management which you then use to change the FAT partition into an Apple partition (forgotton what it's called, been along time since i did it) should all be on the OSX86 wiki/Forum

Use some software in XP to format it to FAT32, I did it with a 60GB partition just now in Partition Magic, make sure its a logical partition if your dualbooting.

Then in the OS X installer goto Utilities at the top > Disk Management > Select your FAT32 Partition > Erase as Mac OS something (Journaled), then click erase and it will format. Close the Disk Manager and continue install.

I hope you install goes ok, took me 3 months before i actually got passed the "Still waiting for root device error"

Make sure you tick the right pacthes and kexts in your install, if not you could end up with alot of not working hardware (thats what i did first time)
