it says condition new... yet in the pictures you can see its been opened and the book spine probably creased

Erm, its a book. Its not about "oooh look its a pixel guy lol" or something. It's doing something for companies about their market research.

Basically he is a member of a site (which namwe i have forgotten,) but they are members to give feedback on things, and you send in a appplication. Ollie managed to get chosen to do one about virtual worlds, and got a goodie bag at the end, with a load of junk in!
