Do you think London 2012 will be 'As good' As Beijing 2008? China spent £24 billion on their games...
But I have every hope in our country to make London 2012 special :)
What are YOUR thoughts?!

My immediate thoughts are no. I can't imagine what 2012 would be like though, because with all this P.C. stuff I question would they show Great Britains / Englands heritage and history, or will they just try and make it neutral and boring.

Well I've been looking up on the London 2012 games, and I think that the 'Olympic Village' Is going to look amazing, our Olympic Stadium deign is really awesome and so is the Aquatic Centre.
And 1 thing I did notice from Beijing that there wasn't much atmosphere - there was a lot of empty seats during events etc.. etc..
Oh yea and I LOVE the London 2012 Logo ;) Wouldn't have payed £400,000 for it - I'd of drew it for a couple of qid! haha

Say what you like about the current state of our country/economy.society but british people always know how to make the most out of something, especially when its infront of the rest of the world.
I think London 2012 will be amazing and Ill definitely be there for it, who all will be attending?

I think the London 2012 Olympics will be amazing and I'm hoping that I'll be able to go. However, the traffic is going to be just mental! As the Olympics are on around the start of the Premiership I think they'll hold the start of the Premiership back a little until the Olympics is finished due to the amount of traffic there will be around London. :)

I will be there for it, I wouldn't miss something like this - It will be a LONG time till our country sees anything special like this again.
And I agree, us English know how to put on a good show. I have high expectations for London 2012!

Well people just judged the opening ceremonies and stadiums in Beijing and assumed that it was the best games ever. However in china there is no lasting legacy and the use of the stadiums is questionable.

This is a very good link, it says where London can build upon Beijing and improve where they went wrong.

I do think having amazing Stadiums and Opening/Closing Ceremonies are very important, its a good chance to show the world what your country is all about.
And thats a very good link, thank you! :D
I think we could use the Queen in our opening show haha

London are trying to leave a lasting impact upon the whole city and get everyone involved, as opposed to Beijing where the only thing olympic was where the stadium was.

I personally believe that the 2012 Olympics are incomparible to Beijing 2008.
Both will have completely different morals and means to them. London 2012 is going to be all about the love that Great Britain has to offer to the rest of the world (which is why Leona Lewis sang 'there's a whole lot of love')

If she was 24 she wouldn't have been a gymnast lol. She was actually 14 apparentely lol so she was under the age limit for gymnasts.

I think it will be great. The plans sound great and the buildings are looking superb.
i think it will look like a local community event tbh. I would love, LOVE! to see Londons attempt at being as good as the Beijing Olympic opening games. Its impossible. It'll just be something like Live aid with a lot of celebrities singing songs. Not that I care that London has the olympics but the fact is there is no chance of it being compared with Beijing.

You can, but it is usually the younger gymnasts that are more flexible and able to do more complex moves.

I'm apart of the UK but I'm irish. If protestants in northern Ireland were asked what they were they would say British. Its great the olympics is coming to London but jeez as soon as the closing cermony was over it was followed by a London 2012 party? Sorry but there is still another 4 years. I just dont think London isnt going to make me go :O because the whole chinese drums thing? that sure made people go :O

I don't think it will be as good as Beijing's, but I still think it will be spectacular. I'm going to definitely attend the 2012 Olympic's, I can't wait! :D
It'll be one of the most memorable nights of my life tbh.
I cant wait to see Ice Skating Tea Cups and Fish and chips! I'd love to see how they bring the english culture into the Opening ceremony, and the closing ceremony, there the only things i watch!!
Lol
Hoping to get tickets to see the opening ceremony!

I wouldn't be surprised if it gets screwed up, just like everything else in this God forsaken country.
I cant possibly see how London can top Beijing. I mean, the opening ceremony and closing ceremony were unreal. London is busy enough, I dread to thing what it's going to be like with the Olympics on. Everything from the design of the building (Bird's Nest, Water Cube) to the ideas to the fantastic firework routine made Beijing a pleasure to watch. I cant see London doing anything better or doing anything different then what Beijing done. Spending £400,000 on a Logo a 5 year old could do is just a sign of how its going to be. I love the Olympics, I drove my parents mad sleeping of a day and staying up from 1am - 6am to watch it. But I really cant see London being anything as special as what Beijing was.

Tbh, I thought that there was a lot of bad Judges during the Diving events.
The Chinese divers could have done a belly flop and still would have been given 10 out of 10. Tom Daley and Blake Aldridge were not scored correctly in my opinion...

I hate the way that people just judge Beijing on the opening ceremony and stadiums. There is more to the Olympics than that... At least the London games will have a lasting legacy accross the city, and hopefully the country. China spent a ridiculous amount of money on the opening ceremony which really isn't necessary. Those of you who say the olympics will be crap, you'd be the one complaining if you were a Londoner and had to pay for alot of it. That corner of Beijing will be empty for years to come, but in London they are at least planning to put the venues and stadiums to good use after the games.

In terms of the opening/closing ceremony it's inevitable we'll be compared against the amazing spectacle that China managed. On that alone we will fail because we're not capable of that amount of co-ordination nor do we have that much potent culture. In comparison to Beijing our cermony will look somewhat under-performed and badly thought out but in itself, not compared to China's, it should be good. As for the actual games, I do think we can better Beijing in terms of spectators, fairness and future prospects for the stadiums and buildings we build.
