First day back today, ICT last lesson. They have only gone and installed a new filter system, which has blocked:

- BBC
- Parts of Sky News
- Hotmail
- Google Images
- Yahoo
- HabboxForum

I am sooo angry and had a right go at the teachers. Even the teachers are annoyed, as it is way over the top.

What are your filter systems like?

If the webpage contains the word 'YOUTUBE', 'MYSPACE' - basically any illegal or social networking sites... Then the page will be filtered.

Which means google.co.uk is filtered at the moment.

If you use another search engine and one of your results mentions Youtube, MySpace it's filtered.

If you go on BBC News and it comments about some video on YouTube, it's filtered.

It's terrible.

Then there's another filter blocking games, proxies, chat rooms (Forums) etc, which is based from a list rather than words on the page.

Our filter is easy to get around :)
They record it, but never bother looking at the logs :D

If i used a proxy, the head would come down on me like a ton of bricks - I have been down that route before.

Hopefully it will all get sorted. Also I come on HXF during school if I am bored and wanna post in the techno section :)

The only thing my college filters is porn, obviously, and places where you can purchase things like amazon.co.uk etc. MySpace and everything is fine. Then again, this was last year, it might be different this year.

The only one I'm surprised that is filtered is BBC but I would expect the rest to be blocked on that list.

When the filter at our school stopped working no-one done any work in lessons on computers or laptops, it was all myspace, games and porn for two days.

I'm not sure this works because I was caught before I had tried it :P But open your documents on the school computer, press crtl + f, search for netlogon, when you find a folder called netlogon click in it, run the file admin.bat.

Untested :P

Or if your school stores the blocking software on each computer then you can do this- Press shift + alt + prt-scn, the screen should turn black, login with your username and password, and when the screen turns blue pull the ethernet cabel out of the back of the computer. Wait for it to load and you should be able to access all of the programs stored on the computer, but you won't have access to anything on the network.

I don't think it has changed but not been on any computers yet. BBC is allowed, google is allowed and google images is banned but if you do an advanced image search it allows.

lol id excpet hotmail to be blocked really, our school is pretty tight on the filters now, theyve locked down on all proxy's too so if we use them we get "whitelisted" which means we can only access sites that are on a list the school provides and most are like pre-school crap. Don't know what our new system will be like though becuase were all back on the 10th :) hopefully theyve made it back to a normal windows logon because that has thousands of ways to get around their blocks :)

When I was at school, the filter was really crap for us. We had all video/game sites filtered, anything with swear words/rude words filtered and loads of stuff you weren't allowed to do, like change wallpaper or go to control panel or my computer etc. I remember we had to do some research about canals and the word 'canal' was filtered because it has a rude word in it. I also searched snooker once for artists who have painted/created anything snooker related for research on my art project and snooker was filtered, even on Google images.

lol the one in bridgend was the best. They filtered every single website, the only one you could go on atall was cbbc, pretty pointless them even having internet there and its still like it now, has been for about 4years :P

Last year, my school introduced something which I guess detected you were on a game, and if you minimized it (in other words, hiding it from the teacher), then it would close.

This was annoying, as some parts of the BBC website required you to use flash, so everytime I was looking at the BBC then switching over to Word, it would close, thinking I was on a game.

when i was at school they blocked certain words like games or proxy. Pretty funny how if you type in gamés then it would work, same for prőxy ;). Most of the actual sites were filtered but atleast you could search for unfiltered ones.

Basically everything other then what we're meant to go on... Proxies are blocked, forums are blocked, games are blocked, social networking sites are blocked, adult sites ofc. We can't even change the wallpaper of the computer. Oh, and we have like 3 options available in control panel haha. They've even got rid of the Accessories tab on the start menu and just place Calculator / Paint on the desktop.

Welcome to my world. Our Filter is the worst going. Google is blocked never mind BBC and HabboxForum. We have a certain amount of sites unblocked and that is only by some of the teachers asking the Head of the ICT to unblock it for that certain lesson, it is then immediately blocked after it.

You're lucky, at least at one point you could get on it. My school computer filters are so strict! You can't get on anything unless it's educational. *Yawn* But, there are sites you can use which, when you type in the address, you can get on it. I only know of one, at the moment (I used to know loads!). I think it's:
www.hiding.in (http://www.hiding.in)
There are others, I think one might be www.entering.in (http://www.entering.in).
But, it might not work; it depends on what your school is using to block the sites.

Hope this helped :)

Urmmm,

Your school is breaking BBC's Terms and Conditions:

You agree to use bbc.co.uk only for lawful purposes, and in a way that does not infringe the rights of, restrict or inhibit anyone else's use and enjoyment of bbc.co.uk.http://www.bbc.co.uk/terms/

I showed that to my ICT teacher and she **** it and unblocked it =D.

My college blocks the usual porn sites, game sites and what not. You can get on hotmail but they seem to have some sort of filter that sometimes stops you getting on a page if it says a certain word which is annoying when your emailing someone and it filters that page.

LOL.
My school has a program that allows the Technicians to watch what you do. Whenever someone gets past the filter, they block the way you got round it :(
