Reading music is an extremely useful skill, and one that should be understood by millions. In the world today, music provides a sanctuary for calm and relaxation. Being able to compose music is yet another skill separate to what you are about to learn.

Lets get down to basics
Section 1
Most people look at a piece of music, and give no thought behind how easy it is to understand it. With random curls and some funny looking curves, a piece can become extremely overwhelming. You shall now take your first steps into the world of music…

The Treble Clef:
The treble clef is the most important, and most frequently used musical symbol you will see during this series. This symbol will appear at the beginning of a stave. It tells the musician that they must read all the notes upon that stave in a certain way.

A very simple way to remember notes within the lines on a Treble Clef Stave.
They spell out the word Face

These are the names of the notes when written upon the line.
They are obviously a lot harder to memorise than the previous 4.
Some suggestions on memorising these would be:
E - every
G - good
B - boy
D - deserves
F - food

The two pictures above spell out an everyday word. Use the pictures from above to work out what each of them says! (Answers on final page)

Section 2
We shall now move onto a different type of clef. This clef is called the Bass Clef.

This clef is also extremely common in a piece of music. We read the notes upon the stave in a different way to what was learnt before. The Bass Clef is commonly used for the left hand, when playing a piece upon piano.

Although noticeably different from the notes between the gaps in the treble clef. There are many simple ways to remember the notes above.

A - All
C - Cows
E - Eat
G - Grass

The notes that lie on the line on this clef also haves way to remember them. They look difficult at first, but with practice can become second nature.

G - Good
B - Boys
D - Deserve
F - Food
A - Always
The notes are remembered in a similar way to before, which makes them a lot easier to remember!

Put your new skills into practice!

1) Try thinking up two ways, other than the ones given above to remember the notes upon the Bass Clef.
2) Draw out five lines on a spare piece of paper, and try drawing out the Bass Clef and Treble Clef.

Drum sheet music is rarely used anyway.

Would you feel better if someone made a guide on drum sheet music? :P

I dont play drums, and to be honest. The only instrument that uses drum notation is the drums, and there are hundreds if not thousands of instruments that use the notation above.

For the Guitar, Ill be happy to write a guide =]

Ill work on it right now!
