I guarantee you this is going to bring so much controversy. But I'll say hear, I'm not bragging. Please, just don't spam/hate/troll, I will just ignore it.

As the title, see my setup in Post your setup, page 84 i think.

Get some more 30" monitors. Pleanty of space on there and you clearly need to have at least 3 more i'd say.

maybe a windows box with one monitor on a switch so you can use both if needed?

Hypertext
08-09-2008, 10:30 PM
A windows setup to support one of those monitors would cost more than I'd want to spend on a windows box. My current runs off of a 22", but it's mostly only used for ie debugging, that ones for ie7, then theres another extremely bad/cheap one for ie6 debugging.

How would it cost more? Vista has support for almost every modern device.

Hypertext

I'm talking graphics cards. The 22" will suffice for what it's being used for. A graphics card to run a 30" needs dual-link dvi, which can be expensive, theres no need for it to be that big, I only use it for ie debugging...

give your 30" screen to someone who would actually appreciate it.

I have a dual-link DVI graphics card (ATI for $180, which isn't expensive if you can afford 30" displays)

i'm not actually jealous, lol. sure if it was given to me i'd take it but i wouldn't go out and buy it as

a) i don't play games on my PC
b) i've got a bigger telly anyhow
c) most of my money is spent on my car anyhow

But I don't need to buy a whole new machine and a kvm switch, for testing in ie. a 22" is fine.

You don't need two 30" big *** screens either.
1 19" is fine.

Yeah.. You don't need two 30" screens really, move them further apart it looks really clamped and horrible.

Why aren't you running XP in Paralells or something if your so rich?

And surely a sub £100 graphics card, i.e. the 8800GT would be easy to get hold of... seeing as you can afford 2 however-many" displays?

Shows how many jelous people we have on the forum dont it.

http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product.aspx?code=AK-TKLA5082&af=50

maybe have themm up on a stand that would look quite good as as well maybe also get a nice sound system to go with it to really cpomplete the setup off.

Also why not get wid of the windows box and use parallls or something like that.

http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
I myself use that as i think its is faster but hey its up to you.

No.

Now if he went and spent a load of money going out with friends and treated them all, THEN I would be jelous.

And, now, he doesn't need a decent sound system, so if he buys one, he will definatly be flamed because... lets face it, a coder, who doesn't game, doesn't need a sound system.

When does a sound system have to be used for gaming only? He could have music on the system which will sound great while he's working hard. Or even better he can watch a movie on his screen :P

Consider some cable management.

And get rid of those small screens.

Lol, music sounding good is a lot more important than films and games sounding good i'd say. If you really want a decent sound system, £200 is nothing.

Really you just need a decent pair of headphones and a decent soundcard, both are sub £200 put together.

X-Fi and some decent headphones.

Although, you can't beat old fashion vinyl :8

It's below my desk, under my computers the wood stops the magnetic current remember.

Thats rubbish. We have some custom done KEF speakers in lounge with some decent cable and that sounds amasing and i will gaurentee it would beat a x-fi and some headphones. As nick said £200 is nothing for audio as i know for a fact the cables connecting each speaker cost more than £200 on the KEF ones.

But my point is, if your using your computer the way he is, he won't need a god-knows-how-much-money setup.

I know the more you spend the better, my brother recently got some £700 setup in his living room, but as I say, for a small-ish room, for just music on a computer mainly used for coding, there is no point.

I think its nice the way it is, just get rid of the manky screens, and how will it bog down an 8 core Mac Pro? :S

Your setup is very smart looking mate.

I think the main thing that would make it look neater, is by tidying up the cables.

At the moment, they look a bit loose and all over the place.

Hope this help a bit :D
