Hi all :)
Well just recently tonight, I got a phone call from somewhere in India trying to sell me something. And I was angry at him ringing at this hour because everyone is asleep and I had to rush to get the phone before it woke them up. So I answered, he offered something to sell and I know I shouldn't have said it but I did say **** you. But then he actually said '**** you, you english ******** **** you'. Now, surely, a company should never talk like that to anyone on the phone, especially racist comments.

I'm thinking about ringing OFCOM tomorrow, and he will hopefully lose his job. I just rang Talk Talk (phone line supplier) and they said I should. But, what do you think, forgive or fire?

I swore at him, and he should have dealt with it in a professional manner.

They are paid to take swearing, try to sell and hang up. You are not, get him fired.

Lol, at work experiance it said, any complains you get, no matter how angry you get with them, just make it sound like your cheerful.

I think you should just leave it. It's not really going to matter what you do about it because he has probably spent all day getting told where to go by everyone and you were probably one that just annoyed him to the point where he swore at you as well.

And at the end of the day, he is paid to ring people and try and sell the item not get swore at so you shouldn't have really swore in the first place. If you don't like the fact they are calling you, just hang up when you answer and they won't ring again.

Inseriousity.

Yeah, I feel sorry for them. Having to ring people up and about 3/4 of them will just hang up, give comments with no intention to buy product lmao. I keep telling myself though that I'll pretend to be a deaf old man and make them take forever...

lol it's funny when you get those 0800 numbers who ring you, hang up then hope you ring back so that you spend loads of money...

Am I the only one that thinks they'll be more than one person from Indian descent in India?

Use the sarcastic smiley :P ()

But on topic, I'd just leave them be... Do you really think they like calling people all day, getting hassle at a crap wage?

But I'd block the number or something so they don't call again.

After what he said, I was just so shocked that a person from a company would do that knowing he could lose his job over it, I just said 'My god, Excuse me?!' and he hung up.

I'd forget about it. He was probably stressed or whatever and you swore first. Yeah, he shouldn't have said what he said but realistically you don't really know what he's going through in his life and it coulda just been a ****** up time for him. I don't see how getting him fired would benefit you at all since you're most likely never going to deal with him again.

Get him fired to be honest, I work in a place where we phone people up and do surveys, if somebody swears at you then you should never retaliate, just say something like "Sorry to have bothered you" and hang up.

Him doing that gives the company a bad reputation and they shouldn't be racist.

You MIGHT get in trouble for swearing as he could say you were being abusive. But he would lose his job. Report him if he was racist. But I feel sorryu for them as its their job and hardly anyone listens to them. Most people just hang up so it must get frustrating.

I did ring up ofcom today, and they said they can't find the number but if I rang up the local police station they can, and then I would have to make a statement etc etc, and tbh I'm not going to go do that I mean hopefully the company will hear the call and fire him. I'm angry about what he said, but I aint going out of my way for the situation. Thanks for all your help :D

If he cant take people being a little bit mean to him on the phone, then the job clearly isn't for him.

I completely understand about the little choice of work they have, but if his job is so important for him, then why did he take a huge risk by being racist on the phone? Supposing I did call the police, made statement etc (I wont, waste of my time) he would be fired and his family be even more poor than they probably are.

joshuar

I wouldn't bother going to the police etc, but I would have got the phone number and his name and reported him after the call.

If he was that concerned about the job he wouldn't be swearing and being racist to be honest, he would deserve to get fired. I know where I work swearing at someone on the phone would result in you being shown the door.

Sometimes I am nice and say I am busy and not interested. If the same person rings back, I just leave the phone and watch them go "Hello Hello Helloooo???"
