So, this big experiment which would 'aparently' be 'the end of the world' has been said the be one of the safest large scale experiments ever. Well, their website was hacked, what a great start!

Doomsday rumours EST 1066.
Honestly, the world won't blow up anytime soon. It's all nonsence, because they wouldn't release information like that to the public, for reasons like this; people getting into hysterics, looting, murdering, general panic across global communities.
lol, site unsecure but thats different irl. you have physical actions irl etc lol

2012 is not scientific in this sense, 2012 is all UFO's and stupid theories like that. Anyway back on topic :)

Attacks like this may just force CERN to close down public access to the project. Now that'd be something, not being able to keep track of the 'end of the world'. I guess that'd really piss some people off, but that's the peoples fault in the first place.

2012 is meant to be when planet x crosses between the sun and the earth, creating global terror including, earthquakes, poisonous gases from the planet,
toranados, tsunamis, hurricanes and basically the end of the world.
But planet x does not exist

Somebody probably downloaded their serer operating systems for free at http://linuxsoft.cern.ch/ and found an exploit.

Well CERN were responsible for inventing the 'World Wide Web' as well as the LHC. The correlation between a website being unsafe and the LHC being unsafe in none. However it is very ironic the inventors of the web can't secure their own website.
If CERN didn't exist though the hackers would of never had anything to hack lol. That's like hacking god.

Yea, I'm sure if somebody attempted threatening with stuff like 'Black Hole Machines' in real life then they surely wouldn't get away.

Large Hadron Collider sounds rubbish, so Mock the Week's very own 'Black Hole Machine' does it for me! :D
I'm not to sure on that :P

It could either be a hole up in the atmosphere or a very big bottom.

So they hacked a webserver? I fail to see how this could have endangered the LHC.
Also, the world ending in 2012 was predicted by the mayans.
got hacked by a greek 'security team'??? :|
You do realise the LHC is just a gigantic microwave?
Just like the ones that have been used in the past..

Rofl, there are alot of people that can hack many things, that would be harder to hack than this.
This was probably one of the more easier things for a hacker to hack.

Just to let everyone who did not read the source know, they had the chance to hack the network for the LHC but did not.

So they hacked a webserver? I fail to see how this could have endangered the LHC.
The reason is quite simple. The hackers had the chance to **** about with the detectors (CMS and ATLAS) and could basically **** about with their configuration and ruin the project for years.
Thats why the project director was worried.
Fortunately, only one file was damaged but one of the scientists firing off emails as the CMS team fought off the hackers said it was a "scary experience".

Exactly, it even has massive buttons. And they're going to use it to cook a giant turkey to save world hunger.

Well thats been predicted by religeons thousands of years ago, one religeon in particular predicted a battle in 700 years time and it was spot on. And it was at that time when they predicted the end of the world. And another religeon also predicted the end of the world within days of the other religeon so there you have it. Certain Death if they predicted correctly.

Nor do I.
People just like to be drama queens and prance around making ridiculous claims, it's rather funny IMO.

I don't believe it but the fun part is making everyone else believe it lol. I started the rumour about the hadron collider a while back and two days later the whole school was muttering about it.
