Seems decent but I'm not sure about the 8GB memory, that's not the actual HD is it? :P Hello Tom, long time no speak. ;)

I'll message you on MSN sometime I'm on, Josh.

Would it run pretty fast though? My current laptop has:

AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile
Technoligy TL-50
1.60GHZ, 896 MB if RAM

Yes, I know, the RAM is terrible. What's the processor like?

When you get past 2GB, you won't notice the difference in speed if you add more RAM.

But surely a PC with 2GB RAM will only open so many programs (without becoming slow) and the 8GB RAM will be able to open 4 times as much.

Yes, but considering that's like what, 30 programs? With everyday things like browsing the web you won't feel a thing.

Okay cheers Stephen. What about the processor, is it okay or would something else be better?

i may be wrong, but if the vista home basic is 32-bit, then it only supports up to 4GB ram. whereas the 64-bit can support up to 8GB ram. so which one is it? soz if i am wrong lol.

Well, the processor has a great price/performance ratio.

How good is this computer? Would it run as fast as the other one (if it had Photoshop, Firefox, MSN, Ares, AVG and Microsoft Word running at the same time)?

Where are you getting these configurations from? They're very unbalanced.

The first one has 8gb ram, a big hdd but vista basic and a pentium dual core processor? You wouldn't have any use for 8gb ram. You wouldn't notice much difference, and it'd have to have a 64bit processor. Also, you should at least get a intel core 2 duo. Pentium Dual cores aren't exactly very high performers.

That one you just posted would be a better choice, but I'd still upgrade the processor.

From PC City (Spain's PC World). I'll have a look around some sites and if I find any other computers I'll post their specs for somebody to evaluate. :P I'll keep my eye out for that processor, thanks.

Can't edit and I'm adding more information.

How's this Processor? It's AMD... sorry for the crummy translation, the page was Spanish. It has 6GB RAM, so I suppose it'll be 64-bit.

Chose the first p.c you posted about, but if you can downgrade it to 4GB Ram, and get vista home premium, what's the point in having basic on a pc like that with 8/4GB ram, i don't quite get that? but you, with that 2.4 processor (i think that's what it was, cba to check again) should run nicely with 4GB ram and that hard drive on home premium..

Just my thoughts.

Intel > AMD :)

And 2.0Ghz Duo core and 8GB ram is probably going to be fine for you. Unless you use photoshop, WoW and Flight Simulator at the same time :D.

Actually you're almost correct. 32bit Vista will recognize around 3.3Gb of RAM. Vista Basic 64bit allows upto 8GB, and 64bit Ultimate allows upto 128GB of ram.

You will need to run 64-bit Windows Vista to make use of that much ram. Windows (XP and Vista) only support up to 4gb ram (unless you switch to 64 bit).

It's a Pentium D, not a C2D. Big difference ;).

Yeah exactly haha, I can't see any normal person ever needing more than 2GB of RAM. I only have 512MB at the moment but I'm upgrading to 2GB as soon as I get a bit of spare cash. With a current processor speed of 2.80GHz, I'm proper looking forward to seeing what I can do. :)

Nice Tom. ;D

It depends on the architecture of the CPU whether 2.8GHz is good. If it's a Celeron then it's not :P.

The processor SERIOUSLY needs 'bumping up' try to get an Intel Core2Duo 3.0GHz and get the ram down to 4GIG and save some money.
