Hey, I was looking at buying a PC then my dad said "why don't you build one". I'm not a "computer expert" when it comes to hardware, I'm only alright with the software side. :P So now I have a few questions.
Is it not too difficult to build your own PC? I read that there's not much wiring involved, just slotting things in and connecting them.
Is it cheaper and is it worth the hassle?
Thanks.

It's worth it (Or at least my book says it is)
It saves on money and allows you to customize it to your specific needs
Also from what I can tell it's not to hard, just very time consuming

Is the book called the bible? becasue it seems you base all your mind on it some how :S.
I would build it, you can build it to your need, you learn alot more about hardware, only problem is that you need to spend alot of time on it, and make sure everything is done, ie wiring ect

Yeah that's why I thought it might be a good idea because I can build it to how I want it instead.
Yeah build it yourseld. It is just pretty much slotting things together. Couple of screws here and there maybe. Ask within this forum for advice on what to buy for what money etc. and you'll get pleanty of help.

I'd buy the smaller things online and the bigger things in Spain.

Building a computer is the easiest thing ever! Heck, it's easy enough for an 11 year old taiwanese kid to assemble for a bowl of rice XD

Right, what will I need? Can somebody write up a list of absolutly everything I'll be needing (gfx card, memory, HDD, processor, etc).
I think I'll be putting in 4GB RAM...
Also, one question, does Windows XP 64-bit support 4GB RAM (or higher)?

Yes, 64-bit XP does, but I's highly recommend you went for an x64 version of Vista over XP.
Essentials:
Case
Motherboard
PSU
CPU
RAM
HDD(s)
GPU
Optical drive(s)
Monitor
Keyboard
Mouse
Optional devices:
Printer
Scanner
Better sound card
Speakers
Microphone

I'm going around on ebuyer picking stuff out and adding it to the cart, I'll then post in this thread with what I've come up with and maybe somebody will tell me if they work together or what might be better. Then I'll head on down to the a computer shop near where I live and see what they have.
Thanks again!
Edit: I thought it was cheaper making your own. :P So far the price is £427.10 and the ones in PC City are just as good.

Asking somebody to trawl through your stuff to see if it's compatible is a bit rude, or is that just me cos it would take a while, depending on what he gets?
If you REALLY don't know anything, this should help:
http://www.buildeasypc.com/
There are probably better ones out there, but it really isn't that challenging. Make sure you have the anti-static stuff and that your motherboard is compatible with processor etc blah blah (unless you buy a bundle).
Something I discovered well into building my first lol (sounds stupid), but buy a retail processor because it comes with longer warranty and a heatsink/fan.

;)I didn't ask anybody to trawl though stuff to see if it's compatbale. I said "maybe somebody will tell me if they work together", maybe somebody might if they want to, I never asked and wasn't rude.
Thanks for the link Swinkid.

Buolding a PC is pretty east, except conntecting the main headers (From of PC) like the LED on the front and the on off switch can be hard to find out where they all go ont the motherboard, read the manual of a motherboard and look at the connectors.
but yeah its not that hard. i had to get mine taken to a shop to connect the main headers to motherboard.. he charged me £15 since i wantd it back within a frew hours ;) but its really easy. just look at a current build and it would make sense ;)
It's fairly easy and I hear www.ebuyer.com are pretty cheap & all. :)
If you go to your local PC World, I dunno if they have any in Spain but they sell books on how to build PC's and what you need etc, good luck Tom. :D

You need to buy from a few different online stores, go for the ones which have the lowest prices on the products you have chosen.
