this is in response to an announcment posted in the runescape section

http://www.habboxforum.com/announcement.php?f=628&a=256

if spam posts in the stickied threads are becoming such a problem, then why not enfore a moderation queue on said threads, whereby new posts have to be reviewed by a moderator before being added to the thread, its a simple solution to stop the threads becoming spam-filled.

locking the threads isnt going to make the spam problem go away, instead users may chose to just post spam in the main section instead.

if necessary just delete the spam posts from the thread and ban/infract the user(s) who are the cause of the spam problem

It's not just that the moderation team for the games section needs sorting, we had a decent list and some resigned and got fired, and BobX who is a super mod only really uses the RS section and he's hardly ever online - Yet he would be on RS, Habbo & Bebo but not HabboxForum - Deffinately a lot needs to change.

I don't think you can just pick and choose which threads to allow posts to go into through moderation, and if you can, the time it would take to moderate would be too much for current (S)Mods.

I perosnally think you have a good team in games. If i am right in thinking you have mattgarner who is a verry fair moderator in my books.

Putting things into the moderation cue would put alot more work on us though. As it is we have loads and loads of posts that need approving everyday.

Personally i think its a bad idea sorry.

Recently, those threads have been seriously abused and members have just been taking the mic to be honest. They've had several warnings, to the extent of some of them being cautioned and since the message clearly wasn't getting through, this was the result. They will be re-opened but as Alex has said, if they continue to be abused then they will be simply be un-stuck and closed, permanently.

then an easy solution would be to hire more MODs to spread the heavier load of "work" even if its just for a temporary period

It wouldn't be very good puting the posts in a moderation queue as it will cause more problems of getting more approvlas done and also, it doesn't help us where we get pointless PMs from new members saying can you please approve my post, when i could be dealing with serious spam.

You are right locking the threads won't make the spam problem go away but its a privilege to have thoes kind of threads in the forums and by locking them it will reduce the spam problem for now as no1 will be posting in them but i think alex might be going through the thread to knock a couple of members post count down for whoever was posting for the sake of their post count.

Its alright hiring more MODs its weather we have enough room for them to be able to moderate at least 1 section, some sections only need to have 2 moderators.

Having the posts added to a moderation queue would just create much more work for the moderators. However, if people are spamming isn't it much better to report that post?

And Hayd93, Matt's a good moderator but he's the only one in the Games section, especially when he doesn't use the Runescape forum it takes a long time for bad posts and threads to be removed, hence why I have to normally PM a SMOD

Hiya,

Yeah I'm currently the only moderator at the moment since the other one got fired. Although, if you do see anything wrong i be happy to take any PMs since i don't get to see Post reports. It would be a great help :)

Oh Really? That's why you're never viewing it then. When I make a report I'm like why can't the moderator for this section answer it :P

We used to be able to see post reports but about four or five months ago, moderators had their emails removed due to it being unsafe and a lot of moderators getting hacked.

Well thanks for clearing that issue up, now I don't need to infuriate the SMOD's anymore :) + Rep

you yourself know how popular the runescape section is, it is probably more popular than all the other areas of the forum. AFAIK there is nobody around to moderate it...hence why it always seems to be SMODs that deal with offending posts.

therefore yes there is room for more MODs in the gaming section, runescape in particular

I try my very best to check every thread throughout the Games forum, but due to my own life which involves around school and coursework, Its very hard to do so. Although, I do think I do a very good job as I deal with most problems within my section. There was two moderators, including myself but since the other one for fired, Im sure we will see a replacement very soon. Also if people do report the posts, Like people have explained above. I can't see them only SMODs so if you want to, you can just PM linking the posts, threads etc.

Another reason why they where locked is because people would spam them up just for post count, 'I am fishing' then about 10 minutes later it would be 'slayer' so yeah..

There are room for more MODs now, after the dissmissals of about 4 - 5 MODS, and i don't think that the gaming section is the most popular forum on here, i know that for a fact lol

Correct, General is most popular (in terms of activity and posts). :)

Ye matts right. Games is far from most popualr. Most popular i would say is general discussion and spam.

I thought I replied to this but I obv didn't hit reply :P

The threads are closed until I discuss what is going to be done with them with nvr. The sad fact is that a fair portion of the people that used the runescape forum have abused that thread at some point in time, so short of banning half the runescape section closing the threads is the best temporary solution.

The issue of the lack of mods is currently being resolved, I have offered a place to someone and will probably get one more to push it up to 3, which should be more than sufficient.

The spam will just move into other threads.
