My PC is only about a week old but Vista seems to be playing up.

One of the things that happens is the circle start menu button has a transparent yellow square over it.

Another thing is the bar at the top of windows (with the close, minimize etc buttons) has the left half go black with little oval shapes in the blackness, when i drag a window the dots move.

The other thing is that max/minimize button in the top bar turns into a black square.

This has happened a few times now, when it happens the computer slows down (this is a quad core PC and i dont play any games so it would never realy be slow)

Iv done virus scans, no luck

Any ideas what might be the problem? and how would i fix that problem?

Hmm, I've never heard of these problems before on a Vista operating system. Have you tried a system restore?

Did you buy it with Vista on it... sounds like a bad image to me... system restore or reinstallation of vista will most likely fix it

Its a Dell so vista came pre installed, i thought it might be bad images but then I thought if it was a bad image the problem wouldnt come and go, it wouold be constant

Running everything on the highest thing? Like color is 32 bit. It could be a graphics card problem or something. Best bet is to contact Dell Support.

If it was a graphics problem then the screenshots wouldnt show them.

You just need to reinstall Vista, it will have been a bad image.

This maybe a wild idea, but what if you go to the desktop, right click and go down to personalize and change the theme OR the colour and appearance briefly, to see if there are any changes? It could be weird error that's happened with your Dell PC where the settings haven't fully adjusted.

Reinstall Vista, THEN go to Dell Tech Support... Dell Tech Support should always be a last resource, and have some stress balls ready :P

If I did a system backup then reinstalled Vista then copied it back from the backup could that fix the problem? I realy cant be bothered to install all my programs again

It may seem stressful but its either a nice fixed vista or a bad image vista... My dell was (thaknfully) ok and has had no problems :)

Its a Graphics Card problem,

Try and get the latest drivers for your graphics card

If it was a graphics card problem - it wouldn't show up on the screenshot.
