I don't mean report a post as you know it, It's something new that I have thought of. First of all I'm not suggesting that it should take over from the feature we now know as "Report A Post" but be used aswell as it to cut down on unnacceptable posters.

This is how it could work:

When you see a post in a thread that is unnacceptable you would have an option to select something that would ban that person from the thread to prevent an argument from starting and stop them from saying anything else that may upset someone. This would need to be done maybe 5 times before a MOD would automatically be alerted and the MOD would then decide if the user deserves to be stopped from posting in that thread again.

Discuss! :)

Would need a modification and habboxforum dont like that. Also I am not sure if a modification such as that exists?

And why not just report the post? Its easier as they get dealt with pretty quickly.
And loads of people would just start reporting posts (even though there would probably be circumstances) to ban someone from posting in a thread.

I'm not sure the feature could even be installed?

Basically you want to do a mods job for them, until you fail at it then the mod takes over?

It all comes down to the illusive "thread ban" feature that doesn't exist. And I've never heard of such a system, however it sounds very long winded and gives too much power to people who can easily abuse it.

yeh like 5 people could dislike someone so report them which could also waste alot of time for a MOD who has to then check if someone should be banned.

But when someone posts a bad post it will nearly always cause an argument which could easily be avoided with this system. You can always report a post and it will be removed or the poster will be punished but there is nothing to stop them posting again to reply to a reply to there post that would of probally annoyed loads of people. If this can't be done then there is no point disscussing it. Maybe it's a good idea though. :)

Firstly I dont think a script for this exists and secondly it would be abused if it was installed.

Is it not just fine to report the post/thread. Me or a fellow smod will look at it and then decide what to do ?.

The ban from thread also i could see it being abused with members asking us to ban someone from a thread at 1 tiny little insult.

Even if a safe and conceivable add-on/hack for this could be found I would doubt it would be added due to the fact not only are you doing part of the Moderators job also the feature would undoubtedly be abused and it would probably cause more problems than it is worth.

Sadly I do not think it would work. Thanks for your suggestion however!

There is a "Thread ban" feature that allows you to simply ban a user from your thread. I don't know if its been made for this version but I have personally used it and I suggested implementation here.

But the very good point that was brought up was this would allow members to basically quash the opinions of others and keep people they didn't like out of threads. It would also further the bullying in certain forums where members are often targeted.

Finally someone has agreed that it would be quite a good feature.

I know that it could cause a lot of problems like you have stated, sir nvr. But with there needing to be maybe 5 people reporting a post before a MOD is alerted it would probally mean that the post really is bad and the poster should be banned from the thread to stop arguments starting, hurtfull thing's being said or to stop the thread from needing to be closed.

A modification such as that doesn't even exist (where you have to have 5 people report a post, then the user gets banned and a moderator is then alerted). Instead of the moderator being alerted after 5 reports, why not just click the REPORT A POST button. They get sorted out pretty quickly. I don't really see the point in this thread. And people would just get bullied in a thread by constantly being banned in debates etc.

This isn't about a Moderator removing the text from a post or infracting the user that has posted it!

It's about banningthe use from the thread!

Yeah only after 5 users report it, and this kind of modification doesnt exist (well it didn't the last time I checked anyway).
And this feature would be abused.

Just woken up so not really focused enough to think of anything smarter to say :P. But how does the banning system work that you mentioned? And is there any hacks to modify it to a way that would suit this forum best?

The OP can simply ban a user from the thread themselves, the mod would require extensive modification, not only for the five per rule, then to submit to a moderator, but also to let all posters warn each other. It would basically be a totally different code.
