I thought this would be a helpful thread for anyone looking to buy anime or manga in the UK from an actual shop, rather than online. You could also just go to these shops to read manga for free, like a library. Many of them have seating area's and don't mind people using their shop that way.

Anime Only

Fopp

Limited selection, but very cheap prices.

Location
They have eight shops around the UK, check their website (http://www.fopp.com/stores/) for their nearest one to you.

HMV

Gosh

Orbital Comics

Possibly the best manga shop in England. A huge selection of manga to choose from and they even sell doujinshi (fan-made manga), t-shirts, cosplay, models, plushies, toys, magazines, posters, wallscrolls and more. I believe they also allow you to sell your own doujishi in there. Amazing shop for manga fans, you could spend all day in there easily. Also sells millions of comics and holds frequent signings.

Location
Obital Manga: Orion House, Upper St Martin's Lane, London, WC2H 9NY.
Obital Comics: Charing Cross Road, London, WC2H 0LB.
Obital Toys: Moor Street, London, W1D 5NH.
All shops are fairly near to each other.

Yeah, most of these manga or anime specific shops are in London. There are more around the UK though, I'll add more and get a moderator to update it in due time.

There is a selection on manga and anime in some borders book store, well actually its quite a large selection, but I think the videos/dvds are all dubs rather than subs (not to sure I've only ever gone and got the books :P)

Not many places that deliver to france sadly.

I walked past a book store, local thing, and saw death note, the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya and CODE GEASS mangas in there, though they were in French.

I was planning a trip to Sai Sai in Camden, so i'll have to write all these down so I can visit all .. or most of them in one day. Gotta love TokyoToys though.

I think ADV had the rights to it, but I don't know what happened to them. They didn't go bust anyway. They're one of the biggest anime distributers in the world AND MY FAVOURITE (:D)! They seem to be laying lowi n the shadows, but they have had recent releases and stuff. Where are you ADV!? :'(

Annnnyway, yeah, Welcome to the NHK is brilliant. :P My fifth favourite anime.

Prices for manga are quite fair and prices for anime on amazon are a bargin.

I wouldn't say faster but yeah... :P I like to have a collection, so I buy all my stuff. Unless I can't get it on DVD.

It's faster, takes a few days to buy a dvd of anime, takes half a day to download the entire series

Takes a few minutes to buy a DVD from a shop. :S Downloading is not faster.

Also, it can take days to download an entire series, but around two days if you buy it off Amazon. ;)

What if it's something like Monster with loads of episodes? That's still many hours longer than it would take to buy from a shop. ;)

Yeah, it's free I'll give you that. :P Takes up too much space though, but I managed to free 16GB by putting all the anime I downloaded onto DVD. :8

I use to think that but i like the fact that im supporting the series also looks good in a collection. Only things i'll download will be series that havent or wont be serialized, think thats the word lol.

500 gb external hardrive for anime

don't care about space

Oh sorry, I meant faster. Don't know why I changed it to easier.

And not really.

500 GBs of DVDs is more space than a 500 GB external hardrive.

Also, depending where you live, faster.

What? :S

Didn't I already explain my point. I can walk down HMV right now and purchase a whole anime boxset in a few minutes. That's faster than downloading.

Again, depends entirely on your connection speed, for instance, yesterday I downloaded Beyblade G Force entire season and that was in one day.

Fair enough.

And yeah. I might BUY some Code Geass wall scrolls, though why they can't be called posters is beyond me.

Neversoft
06-10-2008, 08:47 PM
I won't go into why they're not called posters because that will just end up in another two page debate but they both have obvious differences. :P

Explain because I think I'm buying a poster, what's the difference?

Explain because I think I'm buying a poster, what's the difference?

A wall scroll is an external sexual organ of certain biologically male organisms. The wall scroll is a reproductive organ, technically an intromittent organ, and for placental mammals, additionally serves as the external organ of urination. The wall scroll is generally found on mammals and reptiles.

A poster is a fibromuscular tubular tract leading from the uterus to the exterior of the body in female placental mammals and marsupials, or to the cloaca in female birds, monotremes, and some reptiles. Female insects and other invertebrates also have a poster, which is the terminal part of the oviduct.

Oh

so if you're a man you have wall scrolls not posters

Ok then, brb buying a wall scroll

Well, after reading this thread, me and my friend decided it would be awesome to go to London. So we did, yesterday, now even though I feel like **** after being exposed to so much pollution, it was very good and I'd like to thank you Neversoft for making this thread. Thank you.

TokyoToys was very good, although it all seemed fake. The Forbidden Planet is good, although we have one in Bristol, not that it's the same size, it was still good though.
We didn't even understand Japan Centre and got bored so we went to Buckingham Palace instead.
Orbital Toys was **** and creepy, so we left quickly, we didn't even go in Orbital comics because it looked like a tatoo parlour. As for the Manga one, we didn't go in either.

We definately want to back though, especially for TokyoToys. I bought a big Sephiroth wall scroll, but broke it lol. And the guy gave me a free tiny little badge which I lost. And I bought a cool AC belt, which only just fits me, and I have a size 30'' waist, so I don't know who they assume this is for.

Oh and we also saw Keanu Reeves. But we didn't speak to him as we don't like him.

Yeah, TokyoToys is awesome. :D I've never been in the Japan Centre, I understand they have a lot of kitchenware though, whats up with that? :S Orbital Toys isn't really anything to do with anime or manga, I think they just make toys and figures for you. Orbital Comic's is mainly for Marvel and DC stuff, but Orbital Manga is for manga only. You should definitely pop in there if you go again, and if you're into manga. :)

Lol Keanu Reeves, I wouldn't have spoken to him either. Although I might have got him to sign something to sell on ebay.

Glad you had fun though, and glad I could help. :)
