Look at the bottom of your screen, if it says 'EN', click it and click on 'English (United Kingdom)'

Thats if you still have the language bar open, unlike me.

Above posts are correct, this is a change in keyboard layout, also when installing winXP or any version of windows, you are asked what region , EN - UK / US
So maybe yeah.. or msn mighta been isntalled under EN - US :)
it's been fine since like 2 days ago though :S And it's only on msn which gets annoyin quoting people. +rep even though i dont have language bar at the bottom.
I had this, annoyed me for ages :)
Control panal > Regional and language > regional and language options > Language tab > Click details > change to england :) and if there is a US on there, remove it :)

That allways happens to me I just restart comp.
Is it just doing it on msn or everything?
Then you format or something it restores default settings, including setting the keyboard options, mostly a US keyboard.
On American keyboards the @ is above the two and the " is where our @ symbol is..
If you reinstall Windows you can change the keyboard settings in the initial setup.
You can also go on to control panel -> Regional and Language Options then make sure everything is set to United Kingdom and click 'apply'!
