as i currently have the original iphone unlocked, and wanna get the 3g one. i dont want to cut my simcard either.

ive read that you can only jailbreak it atm, but not unlock it. im not bothered about jailbreaking it though as i dont care too much for the extra apps. all i want is to use my vodafone simcard lol.

also
if i bought the iphone 3g PAYGO, if i managed to use my vodafone simcard with the sim kit, will i still be able to use the unlimited wi-fi around the UK?

is the unlimited package tied with the iphone itself, or the o2 simcard?

Everything to do with the network will be tied to the SIM.

I heard off MacRumors that it's not possible to jailbreak OR unlock the new iPod touch or the iPhone 3G? Or is that just the new iPod touch...
I think if you wait a few weeks then something should come up :P

You unlock a iPhone 3G i hurd you can't use the 3G service which is provided...

I myself brought one on september 16th (o2 pay and go) and wouldn't go back!! I get free unlimited data, no 18 month contract so if they decide to bring another one out I can just buy one.

LMAO? Every network has 3G, not just O2.

You can unlock new iPod Touches? :P

thanks ppl. what i may do is just buy it from o2 and then buy one of the sim kits (possibly any-network or rebelsim) to unlock it. if it doesnt work and i cant return it, ill just sell it on ebay lol. they tend to go for around 300-350 anyway.

regarding the unlimited data, ill keep the o2 simcard on me so if im in public and wanna surf the internet (when available), then ill just swap sims.

a bit of an inconvience, but o well.

Umm... Then they would have to make every phone to be on a specific network and not be able to sell sim-free phones.
