In London there are Turf Wars, (fighting over postcodes), Which has spread to Birmingham and Manchester.

Most London youth's carry a knife, over fear of infact being stabbed themselves, much like Teenagers in rough American states.


Also, The rates of stabbings are getting higher and deadlier.



The number of teenagers murdered in London this year reached 27 yesterday, higher than the total for the whole of 2007 with three months of the year remaining.

Knife culture is something that has been increasing for years, it's just recently the press has started to pay attention to it. Crime excists in every country and America certainly isn't the most crime ridden country in the world either. Unforchunatly I think the things you are mentioning are just part of the global increase in crime due to other factors, but I don't think it's beyond our goverment to combat uncoming problems within our country.

I certainly don't see a day when crime rules the streets anytime soon.

Our goverenment takes alot more offense than it really deserves in my opinion; things could be alot worse. It's true the crime rates are increasing but I don't think it's outside our governement to control.

it's police who need to get off their arses and get rid of chavs from my streets. Yknow, the ones that call you a ***** whilst they are driving down the road, call off your phone for their dealer, rob people, *Removed* the place up.

Police don't deal with them. They are scared.

Police don't deal with them. They are scared.
The police in my area are good. The problem is, finding people to become policemen (and women) to patrol areas, like your area for example. People like the annoying, nuisance chavs (there are some nice ones out there) need to be sorted out, but how I don't know. Locking them up will not solve anything in today's type of prisons.

I heard whilst there they are pretty punishing, for example a tourist found speeding can face a 500€ fine, 3 nights in a Cypriot jail and deportation. That's the kind of attitude we need tbh.

There's alot of people as some would say 'Chavs' wondering in groups mugging and threatening to stab people.

The police here are useless, they do absoloutely nothing about the gangs all they care about is underage drinking here.

Example, on my 14th birthday i went out got drunk was supposed to have a laugh but was rubbish, i bought everyones drink and paid for the cab but as we were waiting for the cab at the station what happens ? the gang of over 30 people that was following us for like 5 minutes caught up trying to start on the guys (There was only like 7 of us alltogether notice the how unequal we are compared to the gang) i were with but most of them were out of it, there was 2 men who were trying to help us which was extremely nice of them seeing as most people just stay out of it and walk past not blinking an eye, anyways.

They are trying to start trouble we get in the cab what happens one decides to open the door and try and pull a friend out who has done nothing so i lose my temper and start swearing my head off because my birthday was ruined and then i get threatened to be stabbed, lovely LOL.

After that essay, My point is they need police patroling areas where there are gangs, i am not to sort of person that let's others get the better of me and treat me rubbish so im suprised im still free of stab wounds/death x]

Minus the deportation :P I think if someone speeds, like rediculously over the speed limit, the car should be taken off them and locked away, and you must pay an on the spot fine PLUS the fee for having the car locked up.

I really don't see why there's so much violence in this country now, although it maybe the media suddenly targeting it which makes it seem popular lately. Either way, I would like to see how they attempt to tackle it. We need proper prisons and prison sentences before that though :/

Indeed, the "TV prison" which is usually pictured as surgical green walls, a fold up bed and a sink don't really exist as the standard prison in the UK. If they were more like that, then the current time in prisons would make more sense (not total sense though :P). I agree with the people who say "Life should be life." I would like to know where the idea of carrying a knife comes from. It kind be to "kept safe" because they seem to be stabbing for the sake of it, or when they don't like the looks of someone.

Some people read too much of the Daily Mail. There have allways been gangs and rivalries, what about the Skinheads/ rockers and the teddy boys? They pretty much kicked the **** out of eachother. Violent crime rates are down... end of.

Don't start this Britain becoming like America thing. We may speak the same language but America is still a completely seperate country. If you're saying britain is becoming like america simply over crime then you need to go south africa or india, They have plenty of nife crime but you wouldn't say they were like america.

I am a Londoner and although I am not a guy who would go around stabbing fellers, I can say it is boring living here. No wonder people are so violent. people do it for a kick, if you have a quasar or arcade consider yourself lucky cos all we got here is a sports center a park and lots and lots of houses. Secondly, why do people compare this nation to the USA? Why not compare it to Brazil or El Salvador? It's far worst there my friend :P

The Policing here is stupid, the Health and Safety regulations are just making everything "unsafe" and the amount of forms a Police officer has to fill in is ridiculous. As a couple of people said, no nonsense policing is where its at, if someone shop lifts, shoot em in the face, that will lower crime ;)

The police are powerless because they have to fill out a dozen forms for just stopping someone in the street. I see this as the core of the problem, since the Labour Party Conference, the Home Office have promised to sort this out, and the Tory's have promised to sort out paper-work for a few years too. Hopefully we'll now get somewhere, but I personally think this is the root.
