Don't post if you don't know.

If you get EMA have you got yours yet? Because half of our college haven't got them just yet. And when i looked on the website it didn't give me any contact numbers and i sent off for mine in like September, at the beginning.

Samishlol

I think i've found the problem
It’s not too late to apply for EMA

Technical problems with the EMA helpline have meant that some people have had difficulty getting hold of an application form.

So that no-one who is entitled to EMA misses out, the deadline for getting backdated payments has been extended.

This means that as long as you’ve got your application in by the end of October, you won’t miss out on any payments.Posts merged by Biohazard (Forum Moderator): Due to forum lag. :)

Lmao and the other section.

If you’ve already applied for EMA
When will your application be processed?

There have been some difficulties introducing the new system for processing applications. Many are being processed manually, and this has led to some delays.

Extra staff have been brought in to speed things up, and the aim is to respond to all applications within five weeks.

To make sure your application is processed as quickly as possible, check that you’ve completed the form correctly and return all the relevant evidence with it.

Will your EMA payments be backdated?
You won’t miss out on payments because of any delay in processing your application.

Payments will be backdated to the start of your course - as long as you’ve got your application in by the end of October.

EMA isn't designed to cover all the costs of education. My parents pay £24/mo for my bus and £60/mo for food. I'm lucky my parents can afford that.

But also, your parent(s) will recieve 'child benefit' which covers some of the cost of having children.

Child benefits really isn't that much and it's pretty much spent on bills anyway.

I pay around 40 quid a month just on getting home and about £50 on buying one sandwhich a day.

Or if you were that strapped for cash then maybe you should make a sandwich at home for about 50p a day instead of using my parent's money. I'm not entitled to EMA, but my parents couldn't afford to give me £30 a week. I pay for most of my own things. I am currently having to review my university options because my parents have told me that couldn't afford to pay for my tuition fees and living costs if I were to move away from home. I have just been checking on the Direct Gov website and if you are entitled to EMA then you can get a government grant of up to £3000. Fair?

Of course the system isn't totally fair but thats how life is. There's no need to take it out on people who recieve something that you don't. The majority of people who recieve EMA really do need it but there's a slight minority who don't need it and waste the cash on ipods and clothes etc.

Well, let's do the maths. £50 a month, divided by 20-23 working days a month, is...£2.17- £2.50 a day. I'm not critising everyone on EMA. It's easy to understand my criticism when you read some of the posts in this thread.

£50 wasn't an exact figure and I don't spend upto £2.50 on sandwhiches. I usually buy two sandwhiches that come up to £1.05 from Greggs (yum). You're obviously critisising the whole EMA system because of the fact that you don't recieve it, I doubt you'd be kicking up such a fuss if you were entitled to it.

I think you're wrong. I do understand but you're just critisising everyone who recieves EMA for wasting "your parents money".

£50 on a month of sandwhiches really isn't that much considering how much the sandwhiches are. You don't even know how much the sandwhiches I purchase cost yet your critisising me for wasting your parents cash when it's funded by my parents. You must be forgetting that my parents pay tax too, so it's not really you're parents cash thats being spent on my EMA.

Much love. xox
I agree, £50 on sandwich's isn't much.

I spend around £80, as we go to subway all the time - but I do get a drink and snack out of that.

Rejection letters is part of the fun :D - Maybe you should reconcider what your writing in applications? - I seem to be invited to a interview for every job I apply for.. As my mum said earlier (after just getting a interview with one of the UK's top themeparks ;)) "You must write some s*** in them applications" haha. But I've been offered a job for every interview I've been too..

Actually, I sound really big headed and I didn't mean it to sound like that lol - Just put more effort in and I'm sure you'll find a job :eusa_danc

You do realise EMA was put in place to attract people to go to collage so they don't have to work, yeah? It wasn't put in place to help pay for food and/or travel to collage it's a complete bribe.

Although when I was in collage I claimed £20 a week. Many people moaned at me that it's unfair that they don't get it because their parents have better jobs but my parents have 5 childred, giving them all £20 a week is almost my dads weekly wages gone.

so you take tax money that could actually contribute to solving the problem. The credit crunch is hardly affecting you as an individual anyway. It's not like you have to worry about getting a job.

so taking money out the tax system which could be used to help bail out the banks and adding it to national debt is better yeah? i doubt you need that bonus. I have no problem with people getting ema if they need it, which you might, i don't know. but bonuses are ridiculous. it is a waste of money. i don't get a bonus for going to school, nor should i expect to get one.

You're all bitter *******s.

We're in a financial pickle because of greedy and inept banking people, not because of EMA.

The government have just given these useless-suited holiday makers £50bn of our tax money to sort out the problem they got themselves in through greed and idiocy.

If they're going to take taxpayers money, then I should hope they're not going to get rid of the services we need, and the benefits some of us need, to survive.

Grow up a little bit and stop being so stupid and narrow-minded.

To be honest I think it is terribly unfair, you don't do anything apart from being in secondry education and you get a free £20-£30 a week.

I'm not going to be entitled to EMA, and my parents don't provide me with ANY money, and there household income is £70,000+

I think that the goverment (?) should be spending the money on sorting out the credit crysis when most of my freinds just spend theirs on ciggerettes, junk food and beer

What type of jobs are you applying for? I was 15 and handed in 6 application forms to theme parks/fast food places around the coast and got offered an interview/audition for all. It's all about presentation. Are you writing your resume's by hand or something... I doubt the whole job recruitment process is different because we're in different countries, so I'm assuming it's just the way you've presented the resume or application or w/e.

My teacher hasn't been in for 2 days straight which means I have no lessons, so I haven't got the form signed. Does that mean I won't get my EMA because she's been off? :\

Don't post if you don't know.

If you get EMA have you got yours yet? Because half of our college haven't got them just yet. And when i looked on the website it didn't give me any contact numbers and i sent off for mine in like September, at the beginning.

You applied way too late - You will still get it, will take a while though.

I applied 6 months early, got mine the start of sixth form. What they will do, as soon as they sort your EMA through, you will get back pay for the number of FULL weeks attendance. I have roughly got £400 from EMA since Sept, so you will get roughly that (I have had 100% attendance lol!)

Also, on the subject of Xmas bonuses... I had to fill in a form given by my Head of Sixth form. (or head or college for you. You get about £100 for good attendance (that means, no unauthorised absences... not many late marks and good effort at school - as long as ur teachers not funny, then youll get it :))

Well I'm only meant to get £10 a week, but my forms just came through on like Wednesday. To form, they'd messed up my application saying that I should get £30 a week instead due to my annual household income being a generous and liveable £5,220. Reading half of my mam's P60 instead of both my parents'.
Having to send a letter off for them to do it all again. That'll probably take another 3 months to come, meaning I'll end up being owed about £300, which I could do with now, not in however long it'll take's time. Rant over :P

The way EMA works - To recieve the christmas bonus, You must have been in college/6thform the two weeks before christmas, and the two weeks when you first go back. That is why you recieve it late january :D Its brilliant knowing ema Officers :D

It only gets backdated 'x' weeks.
My mate thought he would get it all back like months of it, but he only got something like 6 weeks backdated instead of full amount :/

All I know is that my friends got backpayed around £290 and that was the week after the October half term. I'm not that fussed.. I never had it in the first place, just wish they would hurry up with it. "/

umm if i was in a 2 bedroom council flat then i'd surely get ema
so therefore i fail to see how you'd be a lot more well off than me if you're needing to steal honest tax payers' money!

ultimately that was the point i was making on a more general basis - people moan about people who get money from the government because they're obviously jealous. my indigenous non-EMA receiving culture is slowly slipping as these EMAs immigrate to my college to take advantage of the system, etc. etc.

So if someone lives in a 2 bedroom council flat then they automatically recieve EMA? Obviously not since you don't claim it yourself. I, along with other people are not stealing tax payers money, we are entitled to it to help us with transport etc.
