Hi
Well there is this trip in 2010 to the Mustang Kingdom in Northern Nepal/Chinese border. I am very interested in going, its for a few weeks and we do trekking aswell. Thing is, I need £3400 in 2 years. Im 14, so I don't think I can get a proper job yet. Any advice? +rep for helpful suggestions :)

Get sponsors? Do things sport wise and get sponsors.

I can't think of anything else at this time of day. :P

That's going to be difficult, but perhaps you could do something as fundraising, car boot sales to help? Or get sponsored by your friends & family to do something.

Ooh I'm not the sporty type, but I will do it for money for this trip. Thanks for your suggestions, +rep :)

It could be anything, I suppose.

As Brandon says, car boot sales and things like that are always good.
Even Ebay ;)

Find out if you have any rich relatives and, if you do, tell them how much it'd mean to you if you could go.

Unfortunately, I don't have rich relatives. Except one in Ireland who is a big politician there, don't know his name and don't keep in contact :P

Because you are underage for a job

Maybe a paper round?

I know it's not a lot but at least it will raise some money towards it.

I did but no matter how much I tried to get myself up in the morning, I couldn't at that time. However, desperate times call for desperate measures I suppose. +rep :)

Sponsoring is practically the only way you're going to get a substantial amount of money.

You could also 'collect for charity' and put a sign on the collection box saying that the charity is your bank account - but I don't quite know about that. xD

Some jobs will hire people of a young age - news agents are the best example of this.

Try also doing some jobs for people you know. When I was younger, my friends and I thought up an idea to clean cars of people we know and do some chores and the very same day, we went to someone's house, asked for a certain amount of money, did the job, and got paid even more than we asked for.

Good luck with your fund raising and I hope you manage to enjoy the trip and trek to China!

I did this last year and we went to Fiji for a month.

Some ideas:

* Hold a football tournament in school. £5 each to enter with teams of 5 and we got Nike to offer some prizes and got the local papers attention.

* If you know someone who could offer prizes such as in my case my Mum's friend worked for Vodaphone so i did a raffle for the K800i.

* If you can persuade teachers in school. Do a teacher penatly shootout. Everyone wants to score a goal past their maths teacher. People will pay £1 per shot.

* If you can offer a service that people will pay for. Wash cars in the school grounds on Saturdays. Charge £4 per car and get your mates down.

* Offer your services to local residents. I found a good one was advertising that i could secure wireless networks for £10 and pointed out the dangers of an unprotected network. You would be surprised of the responses. £200 in 2 weeks.

* Got a lawnmower and ladder & cutters.Gardening service would fetch you £10 for an afternoons work.

* Sell your junk on eBay. If you put a donation to charity of 10% and tell people you are going to be working for charity you will be surprised how many bids you get.

Hope that helps :)

darn, i'm out of idea then :(

LOL!!

Hmm well haven't done that much before but I would say possibly hold a concert in school (I'm assuming it's a school thing because you keep mentioning your head of year) where the school choir sing, the band perform, the drama group acts and everyone can get their talents on stage... charge an entry fee to get in and hold stalls outside the concert area offering refreshments and other things that you have to pay for. It all adds up eventually. We did that for our prom anyway :p

Bagpacking in shops with a bucket or a tin on the side while you pack, ebay, car boot sales etc etc.

I've got a few ideas..

* Get £1000 from your mum to pay - takes it down to 2400

* Do a sponsored run get around £500 in sponsors - down to 1900

* Have a car boot sale for lots of junk in your house - down to around 1000

*Get a job such as a paper round and save the money - down to 500

* Do some jobs around your community - down to 0

1) i doubt his mum has 1k in the bank just to spend like that

2) it may be possible but im doubtful he'd get £500 for a sponsered run

3) 900 from a car boot sale? are you serious? people there pay like 30p for a book..

4) paper round is a very good idea

5) and community work may not pay that well

you can work for 1000 hours of minumum wage (if you can) (under 18 minimum wage is £3.40 but under 16 there is none.) and then that would get you the perfect amount of money if you don't spend it. you could also take out a student loan but be warned the interest rates are high and hard to pay back.

To be honest, I think this is going to be incredibly difficult for your to raise, most suggestions have been optimistic (But thoughtful).

Are you really going to enjoy the next 2 years for a few weeks in Nepal? I'm also a kind of explorer person and I'd REALLY want to go on a trip like this if I was lucky enough to come across one. But you've got GCSEs over the next 2 years, if you're working 1000 hours, you're not going to be able to put in as much effort into your GCSEs as you'll like.

I'm sure it would be an experience of a lifetime, though there's no guarantee's but you've got to know when things realistically aren't possible.

I'm sorry to say it but I really think you need to start looking at the negatives (It helps a bit) and realise that when your older and you've got the money, I'm sure you'll be able to save up one day for a lifetime trip like this, it's a good opportunity as it's with school, but you get to plan it exactly how you want if you do it yourself.

Captain, thank you but I don't see how you can :P

Jordy, thats a really good point and thank you for raising it. I need to be concentrating on GCSE's and not jobs for a holiday. +Rep to all but I need to do it tomorrow because I gave too much in last 24 hours.

Thanks again for all your help :)
