View Full Version : So, you close all the threads that are supposodly inticing people to spam, but yet...

... you leave one that's just full of a conversation between two members about something that could be done over PM, the chat, MSN whatever.

I wondered how that thread reached a high post count with it being a seemingly unpopular topic. Never bothered to check though :)

Good find.

Exactly what I was thinking. Going to get it closed, where ever I post it seems to get a thread closed for some reason... :(

Looking at it, it's ridiculous that it's been open so long when sensible threads have been closed.

Everyone complaining about threads being closed/left open/post counts really needs to stop. It's not really affecting you in ANY way, shape or form so I don't see why the need to complain? (By not really affecting you, I mean in real life of course)

If you wish to not see the posts in the thread then just don't click on it. It's a forum, not your life. I'm not bothered with all these threads being closed because it doesn't matter. The RS threads you can still post your stuff.. just make a seperate thread for it? All the other stuff that was contained in the closed threads you can still post..

Samishlol

Tbh the thread is classed as spamming. It's like an MSN convo which you could of had on your profile. You're just got loads of posts for spamming a thread.

Lol, it's only a friendly convosation. I doubt they're posting with the intention of getting their post count up either. Just because a few threads around the forum got closed, doesn't mean you should go looking for others that can be closed as well in an attempt to make it fair, or get your own back. You're now as bad as the people who decided to close the other threads in the first place. Who even cares anymore!? It's only a post count! Let the people continue their convosation, it's causing NO trouble at all.

It is affecting us because if that was a favoured thread of that person - then of course it affects how enjoyable the visit to the forum is. This is just at least one example of how they're contradicting themselves in the wake of these recent closings.

So it's fair for one thread that entices spamming to be left open when the majority have been closed? Good point!

Well we clearly see things differently as the closing of those threads haven't bothered me at all.

Yeah, I didn't know all the threads that were closed but I guess the ones like the 'post your hairstyle' and 'what are you listening to' you can't exactly make a new thread for every time you change it (except maybe the hair part).

edit; what are you listening to is open.. I had it in my head that it was closed.

Also; I think someone has said that if you PM nvr with a good explanation as to why they should be re-opened that they would consider it.. so why doesn't someone just do that rather then continue to make threads.

Summed up in one. The two people are having a perfectly valid discussion about WWE games which, unless I'm mistaken, is the purpose of the thread. Anyone else is free to join in the discussion, it isn't entirely restricted to those two people (in fact it appears Misawa joined in towards the end of the thread). Its actually a bit of a gem of a thread amongst all the flaming and arguments that go on everywhere else. Yes, the conversation could be held over msn, but so could every conversation held on the forum. It isn't contradicting the closure of the post your ___ threads at all because it isn't stuck for a start, and is creating discussion amongst the community, which is precisely what we want from any post your ____ threads that might be re-opened in the future.

Also; I think someone has said that if you PM nvr with a good explanation as to why they should be re-opened that they would consider it.. so why doesn't someone just do that rather then continue to make threads.

Indeed. We are totally open to suggestions and arguments for certain threads being re-opened, if you feel that strongly about it drop nvr a PM.

No, that's not fair, but you're obviously upset about a thread you liked being closed, so why are you now trying to get others closed? I'm pretty sure if you were in the other peoples postion, you wouldn't be very happy about someone trying to ruin your convosation. Not only that, but the thread you're trying to get closed is actually a valid discussion, while the other threads that were closed were actually being spammed. So what's your motive? You should just leave the decisions to the moderators, otherwise it ends up in pointless discussion, like this, which is infact what you're trying to get rid of. Since Alex has come to a conclusion, this thread should now be closed by your logic.

How on earth is that spam? It has a point. Spam is usually pointless, if that makes sense ;) Even though most of the threads closed due to "spam" had a point to them, e.g. post your computer/gaming setup.

Minus today i havent visited this forum in two months and all im hearing is "Oh my god my thread has been closed im going to whine about it alot". All this has done has given YOU the chance to create a new, more interesting thread to take it's place. Sure, it might take some work to create a popular topic that is worth sticking to the top of a forum, but wont it ultimatly be worth it with the quality of conversation it will contain?

I for one am happy this has happened, for example in the music forum there were a vast amount of topics stickied that were not really used, this became very tedious when visting the forum wanting to post a new comment on a thread but being unable to due to nobody else posting after my previous post.

Pardon my complete lack of understanding but it seems to me that members happen to be getting awful vindictive about post counts. People seem to think that they deserve to have their post counts knocked off (and fair enough, if it was spam they should,) but it seems that people are kicking off a lot over what is just a number.

Regardless, that is in no way, shape, or form, spam, nor is it against the reasoning behind our closure of many threads. I'll quote my own post to show you what I mean:

The reason for this is we believe that the purpose of the forum is to create a community and discussion. These posts do not foster a discussion, nor do they foster a community, you post your thing, and move on then someone else posts theirs and moves on.

The fundamental difference is that this thread was exclusively replying to posts and therefore fulfilling the requirement of a discussion and a community. Many people say this was a "spamming MSN conversation". I disagree. These two were in no way preventing anyone from entering the conversation. Nor were they even discouraging it. They continued an open conversation which anybody could have jumped in to (and from time to time people did). The fact that not many did jump in doesn't make it their fault that it stayed between the two of them. If, lets say, a thread about a Runsecape update went on for 200 pages between multiple members it wouldn't be considered spam would it? It would be considered discussion. Similarly, neither would an extended discussion of GTA. The only difference is that it happened to be between two people, but that was just a matter of nobody else wanting to discuss the subject.

I thank those for standing up for that thread. How are people complaining that it is "spam"? It may be "spam" to those who aren't interested in the topic. This is a community of forums, and the point of them is to be able to discuss. We have a thread that is centred on a single topic and we are keeping it alive with meaningful discussion. It's actually a rather unique thread for nowadays on here, because it doesn't contain any arguments. It's full of constructive information and opinions shared between, yes, a few individuals including myself, but we encourage anyone interested in the subject to post. The day that that thread is closed whilst still maintaining its friendly and constructive content will be the day that you can truly say this is no longer a forum.
