Well, there's this girl..

Right..

There's this girl, let's call her X, which I really like. Thing is, I hardly know her. I've been walking around with her and my best mate a couple of times, and they flirt quite a bit, which doesn't make me feel good. My mate has just split up with his girlfriend, and X has just split up with her boyfriend. I don't know if I should tell X my feelings and feel a total numpty, or just keep them to myself. Or should I tell my best mate about how I feel?

If X and your bestmate both flirt with each other then I'd say its pretty conclusive that they like each other. Re-bound and all that jazz.

Look at it this way:
You tell the girl you like her, your friend hates you for stealing her off him, you get together but shes only with you to make her ex feel jealous, ends up in being a one way relationship and will only bring hurt. Then you have neither your friend or X.

If your friend gets with her they will both be together to make their ex's jealous, relationship will fall apart as neither of them care about another, then friend realises it was a sham relationship and wouldnt care if you got with her.

I know what i'd choose.

Tell your mate you like her and ask her what he thinks. If it's ok with him then fo for it. No girl is worth losing a mate over whilst you're still in school.
