[Poll] Sex Education - Is Yours Good?

At school, when you ever get sex education, how good is it, answer in the poll, post some comments.

Personally I think when I got mine it was rubbish! We had it the other day, and we just talked about how to stay away from someone and if you fancy them, how to get a good relationship. We didn't learn about any side effects from sex, how to wear condoms, or anything like that. And they complain about underage sex? They need better sex education in my eyes!

Crap. I think we just drew the private parts of the body and that's it. Explain where babies come from (this is all in year 7) when nowadays, you learn that in primary school.

That's just inside school though. There are sex education workshops and I think they did really well but the thing about sex education is I just think it goes out your head after you've learnt it. You go to your next lesson and just forget about it.... especially if it was crap.

YEAH you get beer goggles, blind folds and another person does it normally but you only get 8 seconds. I got blindfold and only managed to get the condom outta the packet :S

I had like 1 lesson that was 1 hour. All I can remember is it being very bad but that's about it, but tbh you don't really need it too much, well I didn't but I guess somepeople did/will.

my sex ed was a quick video about what 'sex' is, thats it.

I think i had it in like year 8? dunno.

It's touched on the basics but I know it anyway. The teacher usually puts the video on and goes and does something else. Someone asked what the difference between ribbed and normal condoms were and she laughed and said we'll come back to that, but she didn't. I think the majority of the teachers are embarrased.

My last sex education was good. We got an external instructor, and although I already knew everything that she said, she was funny and interesting to listen to. We were shown pictures of the consequences of sex, how HIV is spread and even showed a video of the account of a girl who know has HIV.

There was this interesting demonstration though. She asked for 5 volunteers, and each of them got a cup half-filled with water. 1 cup contains sodium hydroxide solution (alkali), while the others contained water. They were supposed to pour water into one another's cup. A universal indicator was used and all the solutions turned purple due to the presense of an alkali.

Basically, the person with the sodium hydroxide solution represents an infected HIV person, and the act of pouring water represents sex. It just shows that even by having one sex partner, you can get HIV or other STDs.

I have never ever had sex education in education. I have now finished compulsory education, how **** is that. Teachers are either too embarrased to teach it or incapable, neither of which are an excuse.

mine's pretty much like that. most of us just cba with them so we skipped. but for first few lessons we just giggled over it. and oh yeah, they split girls from boys. made us go to different rooms

I'm in Year 10 but I imagine it's a little late for a few perhaps even if we did get some now. I touched on the basics in year 6, in year 6 though we didn't learn about having sex, contraception or STDs, it was simply 'Puberty', we ironically did touch on Walking the dog though, and I guess that comes before sex? haha!

At secondary school we haven't touched the subject once, most of us are hopefully aware of it all but last year there was a chav in my form who didn't know what a condom was. I guess it won't affect me not having sex education but for the idiots who have no idea about the subject, then it will affect them. I also knew someone who didn't weara condom as he 'Couldnt be bothered' to get one.

It's just a disaster and I thought it was compulsory but I'm clearly mistaken :P

I started getting sex ed lessons in year 10 so I would've been about 15, also we stopped having sex ed lessons about 1 month after they started.

This is how they went, our first teacher was to embarrased to even mention the word penis or vagina so it was all like "When a man inserts himself into a women" etc. Obviously there was some genuine idiots in the class so they asked "Where?" after 2 lessons she left.

Then we had a supply for the next lesson who came in and didn't even know what he was teaching us so he said "If you've got something else to do go do that if not you can stay here" I stayed there and he told us a story of his first time.

"Well me and my girlfriend decided we would go out one night and have a foursome, there was me, her, my best friend and his girlfriend." We all burst out laughing as we did not expect him to have a foursome, he did not know what we were laughing at and then explained it was a double date. "My best friend and his girlfriend went home and no doubt they had sex as he was braging to me the next day, but me and my girlfriend waited until we were married and when you have sex with someone you genuinly love it is amazing."

Thats about all I was taught in sex ed so they were pretty crap.

i think i learn more in science than i do in sex ed. but i only learn more like when i was 13. :(

When we did it for like, the very first time when you just touch on the basics, not proper SexEd, we had a great teacher. He deliberately made us all feel comfortable talking about it by saying on the count of three, all shout VAGINA, as loud as you can, and then so on and so on. Was actually really funny cause one guy shouted it on TWO on his own. lol.
