Not sure if anyone else on Orange has noticed this, but it seems they're now showing their own version of DNS errors. Basically, when you type in a wrong domain name firefox or IE should display an error message but it would seem Orange now display their own for Orange Broadband customers.

Just wondering if anyone else is looking forward to them appearing on WatchDog soon :P

Don't think there's anything wrong with them doing that is there?

Loads seem to think there is, it wasn't announced and doesn't give you any details other than Orange Search and a Domain Name error. People like to know numbers too :P

Huh? Why's it bad?

It doesn't tell you anything, other than it's a DNS warning even though the name is typed in correctly and I think it may even be forwarding itself when for example, a thread/topic ID cannot be found. Usually you get a warning from the board you're posting on saying "Thread not found" but now it forwards itself and doesn't really tell you an awful lot :/ It also changes the URL which isn't very helpful :P

Use another source for DNS resolutions if you don't like it. As far as i am aware they are allowed to do it. I use OpenDNS.

I thought my internet was going crazy and thought somehow Orange Search was on my PC, it's not obvious when clicking around alot :P

The big, bold one that used to come default with Firefox was better, to be honest.

Lol, it's perfectly legal, a lot of ISPs do it...

Just use a different DNS provider.

You've got to be joking? This page is useless, it's just a way to use their search! Infact, the page title is "Orange.co.uk | Search." It doesn't say anything about "Error Loading Page." At least the old one gave you everything, this just gives you a search :P

That's the message you get in Firefox and IE instead of the bog standard "Page not found" message. I'll have a look at this OpenDNS anyway, it may make pages that don't load more obvious :P I thought I somehow clicked Orange Search somewhere (I haven't got it on this PC at least) and didn't know it was an error, which is my problem with it :P

They do that on the wireless internet in college, it is annoying as. I'm with you on this, it would get on my nerves big time. I hate ISPs meddling with my internet.

Don't you find it somewhat annoying? The OpenDNS one is a little bit better, but I much prefered the default one that came with Firefox and IE. Not exactly sure what that was though, or is it one that draws information for a Mozilla/IE server or somewhere in the computer?

Don't the ISPs make money from hits from the suggested links?

Hey guys,

I have to agree with the thread poster on this, the ISP DNS error pages are a major annoyance. Although an average user may not see a lot of different with them, being unable to access the error codes returned from a server is a major hassle when you’re trying to develop & debug a website.

That's what people seem to think will happen. I did a Google search and a few forums had people saying that :P It may exaplin why they rang up the other day but we missed 'em. Their livebox was a bit crappy :P
