Hiya. Just looking for some opinions.

Basically I have very bad eyesight and currently have daily contact lenses that I can just take out and bin at the end of the night and put a fresh pair in the next morning.

I had an optician appointment on Friday there and she was saying I am wearing my lenses FAR too long (from like 6am-12am+) LOL. Basically she was saying it's gonna do my eyes more harm if I carry on.

So she offered me some alternatives and I have an appointment again tomorrow, to let her know what treatment I'm gonna go for!

I can either stick with the ones I have now, get ones that you can wear for 6 days solid (and sleep in them too) then you clense them on the 7th day... or ones that you can wear for 30 days solid without having to take out. If I got the ones to wear for just 6 days I would use the money I saved to buy myself a nice pair of glasses rather than just the cheapo ones you get free...

So should I get:-

6day contacts (wash on 7th day) and a nice pair of glasses
30day solid contacts

The 30 day ones sound great in the terms I can just leave them in all month and not worry about them, but I'm thinking about if I go swimming or something... Not that I go swimming VERY often lol, but atm if I go swimming I can just stick them in the bin...

So what dya'll think? +rep for all decent posts, thanks!

I say get the 30 days contacts as that way you don't have to bother cleaning them every week, there's not much use of you getting expensive glasses if you're not going to use them much seeing as you use contacts ;).

The thirty day contacts sound good but would they not become a bit irritant after a bit? I suppose it'd be worth it though since they look much better than glasses (although you can't really see them at all). I'd go with the contacts to be honest - up to you though! :)

Well contacts are actually generally quite comfortable tbh! Like I've had these in today since 6am and they feel absolutely fine, lol don't even notice there in!

Also, you can wear them for much longer because they somehow allow more oxygen into the eyes or something so it's fine for extended wear like that!

Yeh I guess even if I had the 6 day ones and bought nice glasses, I would only be wearing the glasses like once a month!
I wouldn't like to wear glasses all the time, as I've never really worn them a lot at all and prefer my looks without them haha

i say the six day one, this way if you have a problem with one lense and have to bin it, you arnt throwing all that money away and you have a pair of glasses incase anythink goes wrong or you have a problem.

Good Luck..:eusa_danc

I'd go for the 30 day solid ones tbh, if your using the 6 day ones ur barely going to be wearing glasses anyway.

I'm not positive, but I am sure when my mum had monthly ones if she ripped one of her lenses or dropped them or whatever, they replaced them ;s not positive about that...

well my dad has the 30 day ones and they only replace them if they come damaged, otherwise they wont, so might be same as your mums.

i'd go for the six day one, i'm guessing they'd be less irritant. however, i've not had any experience with this matter so i'm afraid that's all i can help you with :(.

Well I am currently with Optical Express paying £25 a month which is just for daily disposables... But I am changing to this opticians (who I seen last week and this thread is about) and theres is £20 a month for the 6 day ones and £25 a month for the 30 day ones...

Lol everyone is so divided! ;P

I'd go for the 6 day contacts. It appears you don't mind having to take them out everyday so it wouldn't be too much hassle to wash them at the end of the week, I expect. Plus then you get some glasses :)

I think you should go with the 6 day ones because a nice pair of glases can be well worth it if you just need to get a drink or somthing in the middle of the night. Allthough you can wear your 30 day ones at night I've know a few people who said this really hurt them in the morning:S

I just think the 6 days one sounds better. And they're cheaper. Always a plus.

Mmmm but I'm not really saving the money as it means buying an 80 quid pair of glasses... lol

I dno... AH! Lol They both have there ups and downs! xD

I'd use the 6 day lenses, personally, as I don't mind wearing my glasses on an odd day. But it's your choice. ;)

Oh this is a good question for others who are considering this.

In my opinion, I think you should get both; Contacts and glasses.
Contacts is a good idea if you need them for work or educational procedures as it can be annoying wearing glasses; they become loose and bent very fast.
Also, get glasses for your lazy days at home when you are doing work, or just sitting around watching TV and browsing the internet? You need to give your eyes a rest :)

I'd go for the 30 day ones. Simply because if you get them, you wont need the nice pair of glasses to go with your 6 day ones which is better in my mind. My friend has 1 day contacts like you and he bins them after everyday, I think he hasn't bothered with them lately and has stopped wearing them but I have another friend with real bad eye sight and he has monthly ones, he buys 4 months every time he goes to get them and they seem fine for him. I'd go for the 30 day ones, good luck.

Well I will be getting glasses either way cause I still need to have a pair! I'm just saying like, whether I get a nice sort of trendy pair with the 6 day ones, or I get just a normal wee sort of backup pair that just do the job with thr 30 day lenses!

Lol still thinking about it, don't think the poll trully reflects the responses so far though!

Thinking about it, their is some stylish glasses around nowadays that look good, like I said in another thread, makes me want to have bad eyesight sometime. So if you got a nice pair of glasses, possibly 6 day ones. But the 30 day ones still have me convinced to be honest.

I think I am swaying towards 30 day ones, and if I need to take them out I can just put them in one of the wee solution container things... No point paying another 80 quid for glasses I will very barely wear, I never wear the ones I have now! So may aswell just get a cheap pair and wear them when needed...

Gna just ask her at my appointment tomorrow though what she thinks and that though.

I would say 30 day but only cause im one of those people who hates doing things all the time like taking medication etc.

My mum is an optician and she said you still have to take the 30day ones out and clean them often and apprently they are very irritating.
I would say get the 6day ones and some nice glasses as some days you won't want to bother with your contacts so you can just slip your glasses on ect.

I would choose the 30 day ones, it would be less hassle for you, if you go swimming i think you can get little cases to put them in. Hope this helped :)

People keep saying the 30day ones are less hassle which isn't true.
You need to take them out for baths/showers and swimming so theres the hassle of putting them in and out everytime.
Also what you guys don't understand is that you have to clean them EVERYDAY.
Then your stuffed if you lose them.

No, you don't have to clean them every day because you don't take them out apart from when you are changing them at the end of the month. The only time I can't wear them is when swimming, but I have a wee dish to put them in and they can just wash in the solution while I go swimming.

After speaking to the optician about it today she sort of said she thinks I'm best off with the 30 day ones and stuff and thinking over it I think it will make more sense and be better off. Got a pair in right now to try and I have to go back tomorrow morning to she sees how I got on as some people can take a reaction through the night! So far so good though, although they have been a wee bit uncomfortable atm. She said that'd happen though as they are thicker lenses than just dailies but you get used to them soon enough, and tbh it was the same sort of feeling for the first wee bit of having dailies :)

Thanks all, repping~!

Made my mind up, definitely go for the 30 day ones, very less hassle and you wont need glasses if you have them. I have heard towards the end of the month they start become irritating and hurting your eyes but once changed, fine again for another month. 6 day ones seem more hassle and you can still get some cheap good looking glasses.

I'd get the 30 day solid ones because you don't have to keep changing/washing it. So there is no point buying 'nice' glasses and just get 30 day.

6 day.

Reason:

Your eyes can get more worsened than before with glasses because your not washing the lenses.
My brother uses daily or weekly contacts.

30 day solid, you don't really need to wear the glasses tbh as contacts are much more practical.
