View Full Version : iPod Touch...
Ok, well it's my birthday and I'm going to purchase an ipod touch.
First one:
I don't know whether 16 or 8. 16 has more VFM imo.
Tomorrow, if I find it much cheaper in a shop, Im going to buy a 16 there, if not, then I'm going to buy it from apple and have it engraved, but if they're the same price, should I bother with getting it engraved?
Thanks
Also, please recommend cases for it

im really against buying a case, i had one, it was crap and because i was constantly scared of my ipod being scratched, it got proper annoying.
but IF you must have a case, i'd suggest
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-iPod-Touch-Leather-Sleeve/dp/B000W8KNKM/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1224878544&sr=8-11
or
http://www.amazon.co.uk/PDAir-Black-Luxury-Leather-Sleeve/dp/B000YCH5FM/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1224878645&sr=8-6 (one i had) complete with picture taken ages ago... clicky (http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p197/Xelame/Photo-0004.jpg)
Thanks matt, but I meant a case that covers the screen, and you flip up a flap to reveal it. I was considering an invisible shield, but I hear they are a .... to put on.

i wouldnt get it engraved as when it comes to selling it (if u wanna), it'll have your name or whatever personal message on it. and i dont think people would want that on the back, unless that was their name aswell lol.
Thanks craig, that what I was thinking

Showoff! :P
I bought a case, but it ruins the whole "Im an iPod Touch, sleek, chique, sexy and easy to use!" So I just let the back get scratched without a case. Get an invisible sheild for the screen but if your not bothered about the back then you may aswell leave it.
I got a case for my old iPod Nano, even with the case, dirt got into the case and scratched it anyway, maybe not as much but still scratched it.
i just want to protect it, i can't stand "non clean" things

Neither could I until I lost my Touch's case LOL
Well, I now have one and I love it to bits :P
Now to find a decent case for it

You can undo it easily, just restore in iTunes.
Also, to people who have iPod touches, has anyone modified their MobileInstalation file for [k]'s apps?

Whats the convo about now? lol
Well I suggest you start downloading tonnes of free apps from the iTunes store. Then I suggest you buy a 16GB from amazon.co.uk (or from apple if you're that bothered about engraving, it's stupid in my opinion) and then jailbreak it and download any apps to your hearts content (you'll be glad you got the 16GB, trust me)!
Jailbreaking does void your warranty, so I've heard, so hold back for a few days to make sure it works and then jailbreak it.
He's already got an iPod now, read the previous comments before posting.
Personally, I would'nt (and won't when I get my 32GB) Jailbreak your iPod, technology stuffs up so often now, you need the guarentee (sp), plus doesn't Jailbreak'ing it mean you can't update your iPod when the updates are released?
I have the ipod now; there's no jailbreaks for a 2g one atm.
Also, I need a case- it's getting scratched lightly already on the back ;(

Technology is more reliable than ever before, I dont know where you came to that conclusion.
Jailbreaking does allow you to update and can be easily removed by reinstalling the firmware.

Yeah, you can restore, update, re-break, over a few days.
A question I have, is when someone has tryed it, is it possible to update while still keeping the jailbreak? Or is it a case of restore, update, re-break?

Not for the 2G iPods.
I assumed that it would work, so:
1G iPods with 2.1 firmware can be jailbreaked but 2G iPods with the 2.1 firmware can't? :S

I don't even know who you are. First of its already been said that the 2G iPod Touch and slightly different hardware. If there wasn't then it would be jailbroken the same way.

Okay then, is it possible to downgrade the 2G iPod to the 1.1.1 firmware?

It will still not make a difference, its the hardware, you cannot jailbreak any firmware on the 2g model.. just wait I guess, keep an eye on www.ipodtouchfans.com
