What a decent bus speed on the Q6600 with a stock heatsink and stable.

Depends if your RAM can take upping the FSB i think. Just slowly increase it by tiny amounts each time and watch the temps?

Don't even try it with a stock cooler.

scottish

You can change so RAM isnt linked to the FSB i'm sure :P

Bus speed on a Q6600 makes no sense. The bus speed comes from the motherboard, not the processor. That's the clock speed. Edit: i take that back, sorry :P. 380Mhz for 3.4Ghz would be a decent OC

Anyway it really depends what the VID of the chip is. The higher the VID, the lower the chance you have of attaining a high overclock.

1.3250v

I reckon i could get to atleast about 3Ghz on stock heating and stable.

Stephen!

Ouch, that's a high VID. You could give it a go though. Report back :)

I'll try about 10pm when i can be bothered to restart comp..

I got a heatsink some Coolermaster one or something in other computer but can't be bothered taking it out as it required work and i plan to buy watercooling about december (if i bought it now i'd get moaned at :P) so no point wasting 20 quid or so for another part of the computer to stick in my drawer.

Can't edit above, but apparently i can't change frequency l0l.

Stephen!
28-10-2008, 09:40 PM
Hmm, why won't it let you?

scottish

No option for it o.0

I can change memory timing, all voltages, FSB, multiplier etc but no frequency? :S

FSB is frequency

scottish
28-10-2008, 10:11 PM
yeh i know l0l i found it now, before i only seen the speed for the ram but now i got it. :P

Ok got it to 3Ghz running at about 50-60°.

Gonna run Prime 95 in a min.

Stephen!
28-10-2008, 10:27 PM
Did you BSOD? :P

scottish
28-10-2008, 10:31 PM
Nope, i didn't OC too much i just set FSB to 1333 knew it should work fine with stock heatsink, atm its 47°c on each core with about 10-15% load :P

Stephen!
28-10-2008, 10:54 PM
I mean, when you ran Prime95 what where the temps?

Recursion

Try an Intel Burn test xD

scottish
28-10-2008, 11:05 PM
Ah, na gonna run the Prime95 tomorrow as im about to go now, and just watched prison break :P

Tomm
28-10-2008, 11:36 PM
Make sure you monitor your temps if you do run this though else you'll risk damaging your CPU.

I believe he uses a Vendetta 2

Recursion
29-10-2008, 05:22 PM
I need to reseat my CPU, but with my Vendetta 2 (you got it right ;)) I get about 55c Load and 39c idle.

That is with a voltage increase to 1.495v too. But as I say, after my reseat it should be a little better.

My VID is 1.2625, quite a lot smaller than yours so I can overclock easier/better :P

I also changed my RAM speeds a bit to bring it 1:1 with my CPU.

scottish

Yeh i'll probably do 3.6-4Ghz after i get watercooling (if i get it) :P

Im happy at 3.6 for now, I might try and push it to 4GHz tonight, not sure :8

Can't get it to boot Windows a 1.550v @ 4.02GHz :(

Sorry couldn't edit

3.8GHz 1.50v boots Windows :D

EDIT: BSOD after Login :(

Lol, ive gone from 2.6GHz to 3.7GHz and lowered my temps :O

SuperPI - 1M = 15secs

EDIT: Orthos BSOD'd me. Upped the v to 1.5 now

EDIT: Gone back to my 3.61GHz. I kept BSODing at anything over it

Sorry for double post.

Somethings not right here, it wont stop BSODing even back at 3.6GHz where it was but is fine at stock 2.4GHz :eusa_thin

My CPU is fine on 3.4GHz, cleared the CMOS to try 3.6GHz but still a BSOD, apparently it happens to loads of people, they tone down the OC and then put it back in a weeks or so time and its fine LOL
