Finally some decent pictures and information.

At PDC today, Microsoft gave the first public demonstration of Windows 7. Until now, the company has been uncharacteristically secretive about its new OS; over the past few months, Microsoft has let on that the taskbar will undergo a number of changes, and that many bundled applications would be unbundled and shipped with Windows Live instead. There have also been occasional screenshots of some of the new applets like Calculator and Paint. Now that the covers are finally off, the scale of the new OS becomes clear. The user interface has undergone the most radical overhaul and update since the introduction of Windows 95 thirteen years ago.

I like it, but I don't like what they've done to the start menu. The only thing is, if you open 2 programs that dont have an icon how will you know which is which :S

Hmm, I'm not too sure about that. It's disgusting yet nice... I hate the taskbar but the rest looks okay.

that was a prototype taskbar, you can use that in the recent BETA however in the final builds the vista taskbar will be aviable aswell, I somewhat have a feeling they are trying GNOME/KDE approach and allowing you to add/remove backgrounds to your taskbars etc.

I prefer the look of Vista to this I think, the statement at the end of that post says it all "These UI changes represent a brave move by the company."

I would consider using it :)

Looks very good. We haven't moved over to Vista yet at Mr-Host.com, we are still stuck on Windows XP. Looks like we will be moving over to Windows 7! Looks very cool.

I still don't understand why people won't upgrade from XP. IMO its like saying why upgrade from a 50 year old banger [car] to a brand new one.

I hope you won't be using XP when 7 is out, thats like using 95 when XP is out.

Hmmm its a improvement i have to admit i think microsoft are now going for something thats gonna be more sorta high tech as with the finger gestures ect.

There have been comments that windws have ripped stuf from mac i dont think mutch is true with that the taskbar is nowthing like the leopard dock. The only thing i think is similar is the gestures to resize ect.

You never know he could be useing mac or linux ;)

I'm not a fan of lots of silly features. Flip 3d was useless to me and this dragging windows to the edges of the screen would just get annoying to me.

(They better still have the classic theme on it!)

Not really. You're basing everything on its age, when you should be basing it off how it preforms.

XP will die when the hardware being made no longer works with it. One graphics card/sound card/network card/ etc companies drop driver supprt.

for now it's fine.

I'm unsure of 7's gui. Not a fan of Aero but all the under the hood changes and better system management does interest me :)

That's right, and for now I'm glad my netbook has XP, as opposed to Windows 7. Microsoft wants to put Windows 7 onto Netbooks:

As far as 7's GUI, it's no doubt going to change again.
