Russell Brand has resigned.

The move comes after the comedian was suspended today from his Radio 2 show.

Russell and fellow DJ Jonathan Ross were both sent home following complaints over prank calls the pair made to Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs about his granddaughter.

Russell said in a statement: "I have apologised to Andrew Sachs for the rude messages I left on 18th October."

"I have loved working for the BBC and am very proud of the shows myself.

I got a bit caught up in the moment and forgot that at the core of the rude comments were the real feelings of a beloved and brilliant comic actor and a very sweet and big-hearted young woman.

Apologies are owed to all loyal listeners of the show, who enjoyed its shambolic spirit and anarchy and will be upset that it cannot continue.

I take complete responsibility and offer nothing but love and contrition. I hope now that Jonathan and the BBC will endure less forensic wrath."

Russell signed off the statement with a simple "Hare Krishna".

I don't suppose anyone ever heard Ollie's prank phonecalls? Funny for sure, but worse than poor Mr. Brand's actions. Ah well, good luck to him with what he has lined up in the US. :)

Can't believe how much this has been blown out of proportion. I mean it's just some prank calls, which they have apologised for and the guy has accepted.

I just laughed when Gordon Brown got involved, sort out the ecomony before a few rude phone messages.

Russell Brand will do fine anyway, he's got the states now and his stand-up. Shame it came to this though.

YAY! He's such an idiot. I remember when he got fired from MTV for dressing up to work as Osama Bin Laden a few days after 9/11. He's a waste of taxpayers money.

I hate Russel Brand with a passion. I honestly don't get what people see in him, he's not funny at all. He's just a scruffy little rat. Im glad he's gone, and I heard he's going to America which should be good. He'll make one wrong move and he'll get a good smack.
