Well as a Scotswoman, I obviously understand Scots. I actually think that this thread is pointless because I sometimes dont understand what English or Welsh or Irish people are saying, just like they probebly just dont understand me. Its just a way of life and growing up, we all inherit things from the people around us and our accents is one of those things. Also, if you ask me I would say that this thread has been made a view of critisism and intimidation instead of a poll like question. Im sure many Scots would agree with me. -Bows- Ty Ty! :p

iīm scottish and even i have trouble understanding what were rambling on about. The truth is, depending on where you live, the culture changes from old to more contempary scotland.

the words scotts use are different all over aswell, for example when you would say "I" i wouls say "a" or instead of donīt you say deh, lol.

Ditto xD I had to keep asking my friend what the hell he meant over MSN...
I haven't actually HEARD anyone with a Scottish accent though, so I can't comment on that O=]

Well, since i am scottish i can understand what us scots are saying. Every accent is the same though, american's talk really slow, english talk really fast, scottish people talk quite fast too, honestly, if you are on a phone to an american person next time, they will say 'what' so many times, or 'pardon' if they are polite hee hee.

I know a few Scottish and British friends, and they're both hard for me to understand, but maybe because it's in contrast with my American accent.
