Good attempt. To improve i'd say use brighter colours; don't go ott though.
And also, leave a little more room with the links - make them stand out a little! ;)

OK :) I tried using jQuery with it but it's too hard lol :p

I don't see why you people are calling it "not very good". Its his first go at a layout, and he should be very proud of himself.

Congratulations, Fugato! A great layout!

I say you can improve by using something like Photoshop and creating more vibrant images.

I don't have Photoshop. Why should I spend money on something I wouldn't use?

Ok, it is his first layout so its pretty good for that!

I would say improve the left bar a bit, like add a little line and give it abit more space where you can, and make the whole think a bit brighter

atm id give a 7/10

Congrats!

Try GimpShop, its a program very similar to PhotoShop and its open source and FREE!

Enjoy :)

I have PDN, and that's what I used for the background. Everything else is CSS.

OK, I'll try it. I used GIMP but it won't take my 1500+ fonts.

It looks allright, since it's your first.
It's too dark though.

Nice of you giving it away!
