What size layout do you people normally use.

I always seem to change my mind about widths i use.

Sometimes i do 800px height and 1000px length

but i always change :P

What do you use?

800px - 900px width

Height doesn't really matter and can be changed as you go along if it's going to be expandable ;)

I do about 700px and 900px.

It's argueable, what really matters is the width because horizontally scrolling is a pain where as verticle isn't. Most people use 1024 by 768 (40%), only 5% of viewers use 800 by 600, so 800 by 900 is about right, you don't make it the full 1024 because of the scroll bar, so I would go with iUnknown's recommendation.

Depends on the "format" of the site. Sometimes I prefer a thin-running design @ around 750px width, however for a normal format site with alot of content 850, 900 or 950.

End of the day, its a matter of preference.

900-980 is a good size, don't go over 980 because then with the scroll bar and stuff people on 1024x700 screens wont be able to view it properly.

Width: 956px;
Height: 622px;

If I need more space, I make image bigger ;)

I use 1024 x 800 canvas with a 800 x 800 design area.

I change from time to time depending on design.

900px wide canvas, actual fixed layout size is 800-850px. Height obviously differs.

If I do make a design (which is very rarely), I use about 900x900 or thereabouts. It changes every time.

i normally go 1000 x 900 but dont use the full 1000. it gives you a good idea what it looks like when its across a browser

I start off with a 1024 x 768 canvas and just make sure I have nice padding from the left and right sides. That way you should never have problems displaying it to the modern screen resolutions which is the majority of people now.

I never go over 800.

I usually use 800 x 800.

780px
This is too make it fit most screens as some people still use small resolutions, you should always leave a little margin on both sides so the layout doesn't touch the window edges unless you want it to look tacky.
