Just wondering this, could I install linux yellowdog (I think its called that) onto my PS3 but still have all the other PS3 things on there? Or would I have to buy another HDD for it and install it on there?
Also, how could I do this? Are there any guides anywhere?
Thanks
Robbie

Sorry to jack thread, but if I install Linux, am I able to acces the PS3 partition of the hard drive from it? I thought i read somewhere you couldn't. Just want a second opinion.

yeaah id like to know that too :)
you must be able too, as in the guides it gives an option to allow a certain amount for PS3 files.

You can't access the ps3 partition.
You have an option when you install to set either 10gb for ps3 and 50 for linux (or vice versa) but you are not able to access the graphics card or PS3 workings from within linux.
I think it's like a virtual machine in that aspect.

Well generally if you're installing linux you don't plan to play games.
How might just want to do work, or for experimental purposes :)

Think its abit too much hassle really :P was thinking of maybe buying another HDD cheap and put that in there and run linux, but youve gotta do aload of steps etc... thought it would be as simple as just clicking the install other OS and putting the linux disk in.

No, you partition it etc... (the PS3 does it for you) then you can just choose to boot Linux from the XMB menu.
While in Linux you can't get to your PS3 files or play games until you exit back to the XMB.

Also, if you do get YDL, go to blogs.ydl.net/billb/ (http://blogs.ydl.net/billb/), the dude is a genius with the PS3 linux :|
