I think it's aiiiight. Really, the only thing I hated about this election was how uneducated most of the young people were. Most of them only cared that Obama wasn't against gay marriage and abortion, while those are the two things that are at the very bottom of his list, and they will probably never go into effect, because there are so many other things that America needs to focus on, like the crappy economy and illegal immigration and crime prevention and the social security system collapsing and the financial deficit and blah blah blahhhh. Those are what the young people SHOULD have been educated about and have been caring about. But not many of them took the time to look at the stuff that actually matters.
The only thing I preferred that McCain proposed was his stance on social security. But whatever.
All together Obama has better "plans" (although he's still unclear about how he'll solve the financial deficit :/ Then again, so was McCain.) and he has an amazing leadership quality. And he's inspirational. America needs someone like that :)
As long as he can pull off this presidency, I'm happy.
I don't care that he's the first black president.
Whatever.
That's great.
But he still has just as much responsibility as any other president has ever had.
Let's not forget that he's human, regardless of his race.
I think he'll be good.
But I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

It wasn't much of a landslide when it comes to the popular vote :P It was just as close as I expected it to be.
Obama just got lucky and collected the right states to win the electoral vote. Now THAT he won by a large landslide. haha :D
I watched this :P It was like 266 vote for him and like 180 for mcain or how ever u spell his name.

er... could i see some proof that backs all that up? cause ive never heard any of that.
Oh, well thats just me speaking from what I see at school, and what I see on myspace, and what I see on forums. There are plenty of educated young people who voted for him on his political stances.
One thing I saw when I was watching the news yesterday was a reporter went up to a black lady and asked "Did race play a factor in why you voted for Obama?" and she said "Yes. It was actually one of the key factors." And she went on to say that she thinks it's important that he represents the diversity in this country, while really, Obama's decisions in office are not going to benefit just the diverse people in the country, but instead, the country as a whole. So that's proof that there are some black people out there who voted for him mainly because he's black. Not saying that's true for all black people, but it's totally unfortunate that race had to play such a big factor in the election instead of where he stands on certain things.
And I don't know one gay person who voted for McCain. Why would a gay person vote for someone who is against what they are? It's true that McCain is not for gay marriage at all. So basically all the gay people voted for Obama because he isn't against gay rights. That's not an issue that is relevant to the election, really. Obama has other things on his plate that need to be taken care of first. Even then, he'll probably never get around to promoting gay rights because theres so many things wrong with this country.
Yesterday I also conducted my own "poll" because I was curious what other people my age were thinking. So I asked a lot of people who they would vote for and why, and apart from maybe one or two educated answers, I got a lot of "I don't know"s and "Just because he's awesome and John McCain is old" and you know, just ignorant stuff like that. I even got one person saying "I voted for Obama because McCain is ugly" :| And the state I live in ended up voting for McCain over Obama. Maybe thats just the young people who live around me who are stupid enough to say those kinds of things, but I feel like that's enough to speak for a large amount of young people spread across America.
I have full and total respect for everyone who voted with an educated reason to back up their decision. But if race and irrelevant topics like gay marriage and abortion are things that people voted for him for (which theres no denying that those things WERE key factors for some people) then I think they shouldn't have voted at all.
Whatever.
Obama will probably do good, and I'm proud of America's decision.
I just know I'm going to go to school today and there are going to be tons of gay people running rampid yelling about how excited they are that Obama won without a stable reason to back it up.
EDIT (sorry this post is so long xD): I just got on myspace, and to further back up my point of ignorant teenagers who don't know what they're talking about, here's a few bulletins that were posted by people my own age:
" It's great that the president of the United States has contact with the terrorist. Everybody who voted for Obama just sold everybody's soul to the Anti-Christ. Thanks. Americans are great at looking out for their country.
The U.S.A is going to go straight to hell."
and
" One small step for Obama,
one huge step for communism!
:)"
see? Kids who are ignorant enough to say those kinds of things seem rather uneducated on the more important things.
Or maybe it just proves that I know too many stupid, ignorant people :P

And the thing that's most frustrating, is that some clueless little halfwit who hasn't bothered to even read the above post, is going to jump into this conversation - probably before the end of the page - to say something senseless and stupid and just go to unmindfully prove savvys point.
I agree with everything she says.
As someone who lives in a powerful but increasingly broken country, I know what it's like to be fed hollow campaign slander and white-lies by dirty, power-hungry politicians.
I've followed these elections closely, and I've become a great fan of Obama. Yes, he's black. Yes, he's liberal. Yes, he knows how to make a speech. But he is also a wise man with good policies and righteous principles, and that is why he should have been voted for.
Obama has won. And I hope he can deliver, not just for the sake of America, but for the sake of all of us. Frankly, I've had enough of the petulant bullying and the haughty stubbonness that the Republicans have brought about.
Now. I eagerly anticipate a fourteen year old to but in and say "Hey, Obama rules, he has fit hair."

the question i have is are the people you were questioning old enough to vote?
it sounds like they don't really care about politics too much, and even if they are old enough to vote, they probably wouldnt stand in line for 3 hours to vote for something they dont really know anything about.
and just as an aside, even if there are a lot of people who voted for obama just cause hes "cool" or "black," it probably doesnt even come close to the amount of people who voted for mccain just because he's white. i saw a national poll not that long ago that said something like 10% of the population would never vote for a black person.

1. Yes and no. Some of the people I questioned actually DID vote and answered with the same ignorant stuff the people who werent old enough to vote.
2. Actually, the lines here were not even close to 3 hours long. 30 minutes, at the most. And most young people voted just because they could. I have plenty of friends who voted for that reason without having stable reasons to back them up. I even talked to someone today who said she would have voted for Obama, even though she doesn't know anything about what he stands for. Thats how most young americans who voted will tell you, because most of them are ignorant, uneducated idiots. For american teenagers, voting for obama was basically conformity. It was the "cool thing to do". I'm not kidding. I'm around it every single day, and it's disgusting.
3. And yes, there are plenty of people who voted against Obama because he's black without researching his stances. Which is why I'm saying that race played WAY too much of a role in this election. All the southern states that were against the civil rights movement from the 1920's - 1960's-ish, A LARGE MAJORITY OF THEM voted for McCain. I observed that while I was watching the news last night. and it's not at all surprising.
4. There were tons of ignorant little 14 and 15 year olds running around today yelling "OMG WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE OBAMA'S GOING TO RUIN THE COUNTRY AND HE'S GOING TO GET ASSASSINATED OMGGGG!" Really, I cannot even begin to tell you how many little immature, naive, young, uneducated kids I heard say that today. Because he's not going to get assassinated, first of all, because the secret service is much more advanced than it was in Lincoln's time and JFK's time. So that's just a stupid statement. Second of all, all those kids don't know what he stands for, obviously. Because I support a lot of Obama's points, especially his stance on education, and how he wants to help kids my age who are about to attend college receive scholarships easily and help them get a further education, as opposed to John McCain's plans, which are not only lower on his list, but will probably make scholarships a bit harder to receive. Also, he wants to just put more kids in charter schools, which not everyone can afford, instead of fixing the public school system, which will work out easier for many families. Now, I'd think that high school american kids should care about having a president that wants to give us a better future, and if they had known that, I don't think they would have the ignorance to run around yelling about how our country is going to hell because Obama is going to run it. It's all ignorance. And racism. And immaturity. And absolutely ridiculous.
Wig44.

Obama wins because he is black, and his deputy isn't a women - it's the way it is. Although, that is not to say MY opinion. My opinion is that he would bring the changes to the USA that are needed, I thought he had a VERY good case and if I were american and able to vote - it would be for him.

you're supposed to vote. there's a get-out-the-vote campaign because its a proven fact that the youngest generation is the generation that votes least. all of a sudden, after decades of campaigning to get out the vote and this being the biggest turnout for young people probably ever, you're going to say "they're just voting because they could"? it's been said for YEARS that if you can vote, you should vote.
i dont know where the hell you live, but when i was in high school last year, the majority of people in my grade were at least relatively politically conscious. and even if that were true, its not like young people are the only idiots - there are full grown adults in this country who won't accept the fact that barrack obama is not a muslim.

I don't see a point in voting if you don't understand the issues. Which brings me back to saying that young people only voted because they only understood that Obama was black and he wasn't against gay marriage and abortion. Not all teenagers, per say. But a vast majority of them. For sure. Pretending to care about politics is not enough.

you cant make statement like that with no real proof. maybe your specific school is just full of idiots. its invalid to make a generalization as large as that with an extremely small amount of people. and like i said before, there are no more kids who pretend to be knowledgeable as there are adults who pretend to be knowledgeable.

you cant make statement like that with no real proof. maybe your specific school is just full of idiots. its invalid to make a generalization as large as that with an extremely small amount of people. and like i said before, there are no more kids who pretend to be knowledgeable as there are adults who pretend to be knowledgeable.
HOW MUCH PROOF DO I HAVE TO GIVE YOU? omg hahaha. I think there enough proof on this specific thread :/

"Obama wins because he is black, and his deputy isn't a women - it's the way it is."
" id be worried if i was him, all the KKK black-hating people who voted Mccain will be upset!"
"omg, excellent, i new he would win cus he is black"
And I never said that adults weren't stupid either.
Remember when I mentioned that black woman I saw on TV who said she only voted for Obama because he was black?
That, and I argued with my asian boss for like, 2 hours on election day because she was saying she voted for Obama, but she didn't know why because she didn't understand politics.
So finally she just said "Stop talking to me about it. I already voted and I don't want you to make me change my mind."
The only points she could make were that she supports abortion and so does he. And I went on to tell her that he's not going to do anything about it.
But thats beyond my point.
Most of the threads here about Obama and McCain are full of ignorant, misinformed teenagers. You can't say that that is not enough proof for you.

AT the end of the day, some people will vote for obama because he's black and some people will vote for mccain because he isn't.
McCain and Palin were a horrible duo and Palin didn't even know that africa was a continent, not just a country. McCain was for the rich, Obama was for the rest.

i mean proof beyond what you personally see. what i'm saying is you cant make a generalization about the entire nation, hundreds of millions of people, based on just a few people you've talked to. and these threads are full of people who aren't american, so their opinions are completely irrelevant. if you had some statistics that i havent seen about the knowledge of teenagers about the issues, i'd probably follow your points.

Neither of them were exceptional candidates, people picked Obama generally because he came across as the better/nicer candidate. People who voted for him because he's black are proving that inequality exists and are discriminating based on race, as are people who make a big deal about how history had been made or w.e.

You can't say that just because we aren't American that all of our points are irrelevant. The president of America has a knock on effect for the rest of the world.. And just because we're teenagers doesn't mean our points are void. Who's going to be voting in a few years, oh yeah, that's us.
