Is it illegal to sell a list of 1,000 active email addresses? Not the passwords or nething like that, just the emails?
I assume its the same rules as selling vbulletin database.

Have you ever heard of the Data Protection Act? If not you might want to read it!

You have got to be kidding haven't you? Like Matt said read what 'Data Protection Act' is. You wouldn't want your private email or even your families going out to people and you getting your inbox full by spammers? :P

Yes, its highly illegal!!
If I knew my email was on that list and being sold I would have something done about it, wether I would try and report you to your ISP somehow or something.
Get a coffee and take a nice long read. http://www.opsi.gov.uk/Acts/Acts1998/ukpga_19980029_en_1

Mind if I sell your email to around 50 different companies and tell them they also have the right to sell your email on? :eusa_whis

Find their IP, do a WHOIS and then report them. Or you could take them to court or something somehow for breaching the data protection act.
No offense or anything, but I don't believe its someone else, I think its you, its a classic case of "im just asking for a friend". We've all done it, so its pretty obvious your trying to not get into trouble here

It's like when you ask for a friend whether it's normal to have scales on your back...not that I ever did that...:@
Yeah, I have this feeling that it might be illegal.

There was something on the BBC actually about how hackers are getting younger, and they not good enough so they can be tracked easily. So they just get pwned LOL.

Think about it like this;
Selling bank details = Illegal, not only its fraud, its private :P
So it be the same for any private information :P

It's not always illegal.
In many terms and conditions, people will add a clause where by it says you agree for your details to be passed on.
You are then aloud to sell on the emails.
Basically it depends on the conditions of how the emails were recorded

Only if you accept an agreement for your details to be shared to third parties. Nowhere on a forum is there an option asking if you would like your personal information to be sold to children around the internet.

The above is correct.
Providing your server isn't in the UK which it probably won't b you don't have to abide by the data protection act however its even worse in the US as if you get caught you have to pay about $50 per email (Your pocket money will disappear quickly)

The government won't care. 1k email addresses is a very small ammount. They have bigger fish to catch.

well tbh when you are 16 ir 18 cant remember you have to be on the electrol role to be able to vote the government sells the electrol role details to certain companies. Thats how you get a lot of junk mail.
So considering its illegal for us but okay for government -.- two faced gits.
