Hey,

Right I am needing a new phone (this will be around Dec/Jan time) - I am currently on a £15 contract with 3 and its pretty hunky-dory.

However, since I sold my iPod I really do miss it. Now I don't care if you say "dont get the iPhone" because I am pretty set on it now.

1) Can the iPhone 3G be unlocked yet?
2) If I bought a 3G from the US, would it work fine over here when unlocked?

There was other stuff but I can't remember lol!

1) You could try getting it unlock in China Town, they run stuff like that, I tried it.
2) Yes, it will work fine.

With the phone on O2, do you get unlimited data too? (PAYG)

No one can unlock the iPhone 3G yet (Make it available on other networks) but this is possible with iPhone 2G.

They do. Some guy won an iPhone from a user in the USA. And hes currently using it now, although that is the 1G model.

Yeah the 1G model must of been unlocked to use over here.

Mines from america and they work the same as any.

But yeah it's good if you actually use the ammount in the contract. But the PAYG has unlimited wifi for the first year but you must have topped up by £10 every month to use it, but it doesn't charge you.

Yoshi, is your iPhone a 3G or the previous gen? I'm really considering this but the O2 contracts are terrible so its either going to be O2 PAYG or Unlocked?

I need some definitive answers to if it can be unlocked! :]

Mines an unlocked 2G! And the contracts are shocking thats why i got it unlocked. And i am considering getting the 3G PAYG. But i am not too sure on unlocking them, only know about the contracts. But to unlock the iphone 3G i don't see what benefits you gain from it apart from getting a contract one cheaper. Becuase all the WIFI is with 02 and so you can't get that free.
