Fans are furious after Diana Vickers was granted a 'bye' on Saturday after contracting Laryngitis, yet she was filmed screaming, squealing and jumping up and down during Bonfire night celebrations.

In a shock turn of fate, one of the show's favourites Laura White was voted out of the competition on Saturday, while Diana was permitted to miss this week's performance as she had been ill all week.

After the ITV1 show, ITV2 aired footage of the bonfire party and Diana shouting and enjoying herself (when she should have been resting her voice). As another show fave, she really should have known better, this is one hell of an opportunity to waste...

Her absence has fueled X Factor fans to post their feelings on websites and forums (such as this one) and some believe her illness was 'rather convenient' as it was Mariah Carey week. Many posters on this blog were positive and offered Diana their support, though some feared it was 'a fix' as she would have struggled with a Mariah number.

Following the negative reaction to her partying, Diana has issued a statement.

“I felt under the weather all last week but didn’t want to miss out on the fireworks display. On Thursday I saw the doctor and was given antibiotics and the following day was diagnosed with Laryngitis by a Harley Street specialist. Up until Saturday afternoon, I was still hoping and praying that I would be well enough to perform but the producers spoke to the doctor who made it clear that I could risk long-term damage to my voice. I was absolutely devastated to be told I couldn’t perform on Saturday night and disappointed not to be able to meet Mariah Carey. I am due to see the doctor again on Friday so fingers crossed I will be able to take part in this Saturday’s show”

What do you think of all this?
Should Diana have been allowed to skip Mariah Week?
Should any contestant have left?
Should Laura be reinstated?

TBH. i like her loads and everything but i do think it's abit dodgy, and obviously fixed. laura obviously has the most talent in the competition and everyone knows that.

Diana was better off not performing due to if she did there was a chance of her permently damaging her voice.

The Bonfire Party was like five days before the live show :S Singing constantly and rehearsing which could permanantly damage vocal chords is a lot different to going out and just having a bit of fun. If you see the video she isnt exactly shouting loud and she certainly isnt straining her voice. Also seeing as it was five days before, that was plenty of time for her voice to detorirate - if it was at its worst on Saturday then obviously it wasnt as bad as that five days previous. Even the fellow contestants all agreed she should have missed the Saturday show so yaknow, people should stop moaning about it its not as if we can go back in time and force her to risk not being able to sing professionally ever again :S

I agree with that - Ruth and Laura didnt deserve to be in the bottom two (I still would have saved Ruth). How Daniel and Rachel got through is beyond me.

I know, Daniels just in for the sympathy vote and all the grannys are voting for him. If louis would of said laura and it'd gone to the public vote Laura would still be in.

And eugh X-Factor make people look fatter than what they are, like .. laura looked wider sometimes & rachel o my that dress last saturday she looked humongous.

oh come on, get over it - the girls aloud outside isnt she? aha she didnt even know she had an illness then.

& to be honest, laura went because ruth was better or the night, horriable turn of fate but it happens.

so people should stop moaning and shoulda picked up their phones instead of phoning to save people like daniel? lol :)

Im sure she didnt just develop it on the day, she must have felt it coming and being the X factor I am sure they monitor things like this so to be doing that the night before the live shows does seem to be a coincidence. Laura has one of the best voices this year and no way deserved to go out this week, and nor did her or ruth deserve to be in the bottom two. X factor is a competition for peoples singing capabilities not a sympathy vote and this is what some of the artists are getting to keep them in, i.e. rachel - hard life, eoughen - cute, young, diana - laryngitus etc. Laura and Ruth only have determination and look what its done to them. On the night the 3 above were probally the worst performers, or didnt perform at all so I do think that Laura should be brought back to the show and Diana should go tbh.

who bloody cares? so what if she was the best? its the audience who vote, bringing her back in would just be stupid and would ruin the whole point of talent shows, she will probley get a singing record outside the x factor anyway, so stop agruing, im fed up of it.

Before reading that, i would have said it was fair for her to get a bye pass into the next round

But if she got caught screaming and shouting on bonfire night, like 3days before the show, there was obviously nothing as serious wrong with her and therefore she should have sung.
