Will a 500w psu be powerful enough to cope with this or will i need to stick a more powerful one in?

N!ck
15-11-2008, 03:42 PM
What brand is the PSU? If it's a default/generic one then i'd recomment getting a better one for the 9800GTX.

Yes, something like the one you posted, or a better brand but lower power rating like this. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/116522

It'll be fine, get a nice branded one. You don't really need to be buying a 700w PSU for that though, save yourself abit of cash.

Get a DECENT BRAND PSU fgs

none of this artic power or whatever crap you want, get corsair or OCZ if your getting off ebuyer.

Or Coolermaster . The Arctic Power would do easily, but it's up to him what brand he goes for.

It should be, I'm getting a 500W PSU with my new rig and a 9800GTX overclocked. Should be fine.

Ye but it's a good price.. plus i was thinking i may get a slightly more powerful card

N!ck
17-11-2008, 04:33 PM
Yes it is a good price. What card you looking at? You only really need something like that if you're SLi-ing.

Technologic
17-11-2008, 04:34 PM
Gtx 260 most likely

You know.. just slightly

scottish
17-11-2008, 05:01 PM
If you get that i suggest getting it from EVGA as they offer free futuremark subscription and a game usually (i'm sure its currently farcry 2 and futuremark )

Stephen!
17-11-2008, 05:06 PM
BFG do that too. And you get a free torch

Is there really any difference between the SSC, Superclocked and FTW editions?

N!ck
17-11-2008, 07:31 PM
They are overclocked as stock. The SSC comes with a 626MHz core and the FTW comes with a 666MHz core.

Stephen!
17-11-2008, 08:45 PM
The PCI-E power connectors are not on the side of the card that is facing the front of the case. They are on the side pointing towards the side panel so you should be fine

Recursion
17-11-2008, 08:49 PM
Thought so.

Technologic
17-11-2008, 08:56 PM
Yeah but there is still only like a cm of space between the hdd bay and the card... i could just remove th hdd bays and use that http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=37866&DOY=8m11

Recursion
17-11-2008, 08:56 PM

Stephen!
17-11-2008, 08:58 PM
It will be fine. Besides, the cold air to cool the card comes from below it, not beside it

17-11-2008, 08:59 PM
Tbh i guess you're right.. there's just a niggling at the back of my brain saying "What if it doesnt fit?"

That's the same as the SSC one on Ebuyer. I'm guessing SSC stands for Super Clocked Core or something.

Technologic
19-11-2008, 06:28 PM
The 'core 216' has 216 processor cores and the normal gtx 260 has 196, the ones on ebuyer are the ones with 196

EVGA cards come with a lifetime warranty and also 3dmark vantage so yeah.. :]

Anyways the gtx 260 core 216 superclocked edition performs almost aswell as the standard gtx 280

scottish
19-11-2008, 06:57 PM
I was the one that suggested EVGA ;)

BUT you said ebuyer don't have any with 216 cores, so in my instinct i had to prove you wrong :)

BFG meant to have crap customer service..
for example one guy sent his card back as it was faulty, was sent a 'replacement' which turned out to be the same card that had been flashed and underclocked to make it stable
