Layout - Rate 'n Slate

Hey,

I'm working on a project with a few friends and have begun mocking up the layout. I've current got two slight variants of the design.

Layout One:

Could you please reply with which you prefer, plus any general critisims and comments on the layouts.

I don't like either of those layouts, they look like a quick 2 minute job :(!

Hey,

5 minutes. Though they are mocked up in html and css, rather than being images.

Any specific improvements you can suggest to give them a more "professional" look?

It looks very amutureish, maybe get a different colour scheme, and get rid of the white in the middle ;)

They are ok.. not very web 2.0

Both of them looks quite old.
The colours are boring, same with the fonts.
Try adding gradients, and make it un-plain :P

Client whos breif i was working on thinks it's great, so looks like its going to have to stay like layout one.
Suppose theres no accounting for taste :p
