Hi everybody,
As Christmas approaches us faster and faster it's time to prepare, with the ultimate countdown widget. It's a minimal and versatile widget that will sit in your dashboard or on your desktop nicely.

Took me about 2hrs, but that was because I didn't save and kept 'just' finishing it then Dashcode crashing and having to start all over again. If this error hadn't of come about, it would've taken about 30 minutes.
Enjoy. :)
Showing widget on desktop
Open Terminal (Applications --> Utilities --> Terminal) and copy and paste this command into it:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES
Now, relaunch the Dock by entering the following command into Terminal:
killall Dock
Now, open up Dashboard and click and hold the Christmas countdown widget. Now whilst holding it, press the Dashboard key on your keyboard (either F4 for newer iMacs or F12 for older iMacs). The widget should stay held by your mouse and you should be able to drag it around your desktop. Position it anywhere you like, and to delete it, hold down Alt and hover over it so that the black X appears.
To move the widget back into Dashboard, reverse the instructions: begin dragging the widget, then, while still keeping the mouse button down, press F12 or F4, then let go of the mouse button. The widget will be restored to its regular Dashboard layer.
Note, if you're having problems with this, then try logging out and back in again! To revert the Dashboard setting back to normal, just copy and paste this into terminal:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode NO
