You have to renew at the end of the year.
As Greg usually says, .co.uk TLD's push traffic away if they're your primary domain, it's best to run as a .com
Also, this has been posted a few times.
This has been posting many times before.
Thanks for posting though, for those who didn't know ;)

Have to? You just don't pay and it should expire?

Whats with the "send the code to me"
I think this is a scam and they are going to take money off the text they send you...

They can't, not unless you sign some agreement.

Has anyone fallen for the text bit yet?
Daniel
Yeah I got one last night, have the domain. Not sure if it charged me, will check my bill later on orange.

Fallen? It's a pre-caution to verify you're human, any product you order with OVH requires you to verify via SMS, if you're already registered it makes you enter a captcha code. I have a dedicated server with their sister company which I have to manage from the OVH website.

No, it doesn't charge.

You have to agree to a contract with them when registering a domain.
Ah cool. A bit off topic, but anyone know of any cheap/reliable dedicated/vps server providers? :)

AFAIK .co.uk's need to be registered for a minimum of two years. Meaning you get the first year free and then you pay for the second.
I believe this is the way they are doing it, of course if your details are fake they don't have much of a way of catching you - Real details normally results in a "Pay or the bailiffs are coming" - I got one of those letters from 1&1 a while back...

Apparently after the year they take the 6pound off your phone...
