Can someone tell me what is the difference between the HDMI and HD?
On the back of my 360 there is a HDMI port and then you have the normal HD cables along with regular AV cables. Seeing as I am recieving a new HDTV for Christmas, I'll need to know what is better?
Thanks.

HDMI is for transmitting uncompressed digital streams.

HDMI supports, on a single cable, any TV or PC video format including standard, enhanced, and high-definition video along with up to 8 channels of digital audio.

The cables you have on your Xbox are either component or composite cables.

HDMI is just a step up from those.. and if my memory serves me correct.. here is the ladder..

Coaxial Cable
RCA - (Red, Yellow, White)
S-Video
Component (Blue, Green, Red)
HDMI

So it's basically just the Component (BGR) in 1 wire?

No, it's more high quality and can transmit data faster and in more high quality..

HDMI, FiberOptic (Digital) = Digital Signal, Component/Composite/Coaxial/S-Video = Analog Signal

So would it be worth forking out £20+ for HDMI cables on 32'' HDTV.

It wouldn't be worth forking out that much for a real expensive HDMI cable..

All HDMI cables are essentially the same..

i just went to see what mine would look like but i dont know if its on the right settings??

but HDMI has definitely improved the picture by a mile!! Jesus christ im glad i bought it now lol. 32" as well

EDIT: agree with above, they are all about the same which i wish i knew that at the time :(

I bought a Monster brand one.. was about $90.. works great.

I have a 42" DLP. so it works pretty good.. 1080i. (wish I would have waited a month for 1080p)

Your Xbox has a switch aswell remember called 'HD' so just flick that on, and Xbox doesn't tend to make it 'HD' it's built into your TV :P

you can't make HD out of bad signal.. no matter what people say..

The Xbox wire would do it fine though.

It still wouldn't be as crystal clear as it could be.. analog isn't going to carry HD signal very good.. very far..

It might be decent.. it might be okay.. but it's not going to look as good as it could, and should :P

Aye, but it'll only be a 30 odd inch TV instead of a 50 so I doubt it'll matter :P

I've seen some pretty good graphics on small tvs :P Bigger TVs always explode the image up, and depending on the ratio.. can make it look worse ;P

Haha, as long as the image is slightly good and the sound, it's good with me, I'd prefer a 32" over a 50" anyday, I have to proper sit glued back to my chair in the living room or I can't see it properly ;)

I use the Microsoft HDMI cable for mine. Better quality than the AV cables (26").
