Do we act differently online or say things we'd never do in the 'real world'?

i know i say things i'd never say in real life. i'm not as cocky as i am online than in real. what's so scary about saying something rude to someone online? nothing really. i'm pretty much the same irl & online other then that :) & i talk to people online 'bout personal stuff more than real life friends

Earthquake
25-11-2008, 08:25 PM
Well I act like this alot in real life, but tbh in real life I have more control then I do on here, so not many people get rude back. bless.

25-11-2008, 08:26 PM
Yessss. I also say things to people I know irl online, like things i'd never say irl haha lol

Lol Earthquake. I'm like buttons - I'd never act like I do online in real life, and I do open up to people a bit more online.

Yessss. I also say things to people I know irl online, like things i'd never say irl haha lol

That's another big point. Talking to real life friends online. I act a tad differently then too, for example, even though I could be extremely tired, I can still type lively.

soz buttttttt erm the posts you make on here kind of makes it look like you don't actually have much control irl, as some people seem to be 'merking' you by threatening to stab you.

No offence lol.

Yeah people do, people are alot more confident when theres a computer screen infront of them instead of actual people.

Pyroka
25-11-2008, 08:37 PM
I can be as confident as I am on here... sometimes, in IRL. Idk, it depends on the sitch really.

I agree with most people, act differently irl than online. I suppose anonimity plays a big factor though.

Supersam
25-11-2008, 09:42 PM
Im the other way to most people. I tend to act alot more outgoing in real life than online.

I suppose its just because I know everyone offline and its much easier to have a laugh and a joke about wheras online I dont know everyone and it takes longer to get to know someone because you can't tell their personality from the way they type.

I act extremely differently online than in real life, I also act extremely differently at school than I do if im say.. out in town with my friends.

Yea I act differently online than I do in real life. Im shy in real life and wouldn't usually talk to a girl I like but if I have her MSN I will talk to her on the internet lol :P

Everybody acts different and says thing they normally wouldnt online becuase they dont have to face the consquences.
Example:
On xbox live, a little squeaky kid calling some black guy the n word. They would never do that irl becuase they would get beat up/killed.

I reckon EVERYONE is different online.
Cos there are some things you just wouldnt say irl cos you know you'd get a smack in the mouth yet if you type it, theres not really much people can do.
+people might be like ultra shy too, yet theres nothing scary about typing unless you have some strange computer fear.

I argue in real life and online, I'm a tiny bit more shy in real life, I won't say anything really offensive, but online I would.

I have some Chinese kid in my class, and he kept telling me I fail at Mathematics, as soon as he got on MSN I kept pasting him links to Chinese porn and kept being really racist to him lol.

Callum.

pretty much the same. don't really post often and really only talk to real life friends on msn, so i don't really have a e-life.

I tend to say less things on the internet to IRL friends than I would in real life (just incase people C&P things lmao, paranoid or wot). If I need to say something important to someone I just phone them.

As Earthquake said, I have a lot less control over people on here than I do in real life so I will usually act differently towards people.

I act a LOT different on the internet. I guess you could say that I'm less afraid to show emotion and argue with people, I can be more open and honest because a lot of these people I'll never actually meet but we can become good friends, and whatnot. I felt kind of bad at first because I was never supposed to chat online because my mom has this fear that some pedo is going to find me and kill me, but I know how to handle myself which she just doesn't understand. So I think that going online to get to know people was great for me, because otherwise I'd be all by myself and keeping everything to myself.

I find that I act a lot like myself online as I do in real life. That is I don't speak to any strangers unless spoken to so you'll never catch me greeting random strangers, except in my shop obviously.

I don't share anything with people online, I share everything with my real life friends. They're always there for me.

But, my capacity to be mean is greatly heightened when I'm online. But I only act out in response to something equally offensive. I guess I couldn't bear to see the hurt in their eyes if they were actually in front of me.

On the internet people tell me I am cute and pretty and I don't get those comments said to me when I am walking down the road in real life - which makes me wonder if they saw me or any pretty girl in real life if those people would approach them and tell them like they do do on the internet. When I am on an instant messenger I am not very good at being the one to talk to people first but in real life I can strike up conversations and talk to people a lot more than I can on the internet.

Well, I prefer to focus on my studies, my acting and my music in real life than I do to talk to people. I'm not really a clique-/group-y person, though in no way am I a shy person. I suppose that I don't talk to alot of people online, but the people I talk to usually meet a person who is very much the same as I am in real life, regardless of who I am on the forum or not. I suppose I'm a little more punctual in post than I would be on IM, but to be frank, I'm not shy in real life and I'm most certainly not a racist/homophobic/outright rude person on the internet. So I guess I'm the same, besides what my Habbo might wear - but gimme a break, there's hardly any clothes to select when you're non HC.

I Don't even say ASL on the internet.

I think I'm pretty much the same, I've asked my girlfriend (who I met on line - we see each other literly everyday though!) And she says I'm the same.

In my opinion, I think it depends on the person. I think if your a person who Doesn't have much, and wishes you had more that you would act differently, saying stuff you don't have and stuff, although, if your pretty happy, and got what you want you act the same. (I'm not sure if this makes sense, but you should catch my drift.)

Very well put, you don't seem to care what people think of you online so act more yourself, but irl you want to be liked and not to be judged so you have to tone yourself down or build yourself up a bit to fit in.
