thinking of allowing people to use SMS to pay for hosting, how do you get a premium rate number going? Anyone with experience with this?

Fail of an idea, so many site's use this as a method of payment.

http://www.glpayment.co.uk/ I believe most of them use.

GLPayment are terrible. They claim to offer support yet they don't even respond. One of the people who work for them, some sort of manager, can only send emails and not receive (clearly they don't want to give support) as he managed to email me that their bank account wasn't working but replies don't get through to that address.

Their bank account has been broken for a good few months, you still get pay-outs in cheques but it takes longer to receive and to actually get in your bank account.

I would recommend Mobillcash.com, and you might want to contact me to work on integrating mobillcash with your billing system/website.
