Hiya.

I am buying an iphone as many people know lol, and I have found someone on Gumtree who is willing to sell me a brand new 16gb 3g one for £250.

He said he is happy for me to pay through paypal.

This is a really good deal - but I am wondering if it is perhaps a bit too good to be true and I don't wanna be sending him £250 and get scammed!

If I paid him and he tried to pull any sort of scam, would I still be fully protected under paypal and could get it back???

He gave me a pic, but tbh he could have easily went on ebay or google images and got it lol

Just a bit apprehensive... so what do you think?

It should be OK to be honest. If he scams you, report it to Gumtree and PayPal and you'll definately get your £250 back.

If they don't live too far from you ask him if he can meet up with you and exchange it by hand and pay via cash.

But if he does scam you can always do a cashback

Yeah i think that is probably the best solution. Your covered on up to £350 eBay but on most websites i don't think your covered. Check if you are before you buy and ask for more pictures.

Paypal transactions aren't completed for two weeks, so if he doesn't give it you before then, then just contact Paypal saying so.

If you send Paypal an email regarding the situation and still have the transactions the money will be taken out of his account and give him -250 instead of 250 untill the situation is resolved

Well I asked him to meet and he first f allsaid he couldn't come to Glasgow as he works 7 days. I then said I wouldn't really be comfortable unless he would be willing to meet.

He said he would and it's my choice he will accept payment cash in hand or by paypal. So he is being flexible, but I don't understand why he would sell a brand new 16gb 3g for £250 when they are like £400 on ebay.

I asked for another pic and he said he doesn't have any.

He's gave me his mobile number though to text him if I have any more q's.

So you think I'll be safe enough if its all done through paypal then?

Yes as its always easy to cancel the transaction or report it to paypal

I text him there asking him if he could take a couple of pics and send via mms and he replied and I quote "Already i sended if you want buy mate exactly same picture i bought o2 shop"

His english doesn't seem the greatest and his name is Orhan Aydin

I'm not sure though because before I told him where I was from and stuff he was like "I dont post to Africa" and stuff so it appears liek he was apprehensive, so maybe I am just being a bit...? lol

But then again if that was me looking to sell my iphone for £250 I would understand and wouldn't see the prob of taking a couple of more pictures...

he hasnt taken that himself.

I don't think so either tbh and thats why he isn't wanting to send anymore.

I dno lol, I guess I just don't wanna get scammed here and I suppose it seems a bit too good to be true - but at the same time I don't wanna pass up what may just be a good offer?

I wouldn't do the deal, the image is definately not taken by him. I only goto the shops and buy them, unless you know someone.

Okay thanks for your opinion.

Yeh I'm thinkign it may be a bit risky with him and he doesn't seem overly legit lol

If he can't meet up, offer to go to him! I would, if my parents agree. or maybe let it fall through. Its down to you, but im sure if he scams you'd get your money back!

As they say "If somethings too good to be true it's just too good to be true" :P

That picture is 100% not taken by him. That photo is likey been taken by Apple and he probs took it from google images.

You could add and extra £80 and buy a
Apple iPod Touch 32GB.
