You can change the stand-by/hibernate button to a shut down by:

Pressing start/windows icon
Type in "Power Options" in the search
Open Power Options (when it appears)
Click "Change plan settings" on the power plan you are using
Click "Advanced power settings"
Click on the + next to "Power buttons and lid"
Click the + next to "Start menu power button"
Click "Setting" and change it from 'Sleep' to 'Shut down'

Sort of off topic, but whenever I was right mouse clicking and bringing up a menu in Vista (and I've never had this problem with ANY other Windows operating system before in my life), I would select an option and instead of the menu disappearing, the option I selected would stay on my screen in front of every other Window....yay! I had to disable menu fadeouts to fix this. After doing that I decided to install AVG free (I already had installed it before but every time it's been on my --Vista machine-- I've had compatibility problems, so I've decided to give it another shot now). Anyways I had to install a Vista patch first. OK...no problems yet, but after installing the patch, my secondary monitor decides it wants to change it's resolution, and my entire setup freezes. No keyboard or mouse signals being sent, and no activity on the screen. After rebooting my system's stuck at the Vista load screen (yay)....after re-trying to boot it without success I have to use the Vista recovery disk to get into that nifty Vista recovery tool. An hour later I'm back in business.

I'm not trying to cause arguments by saying this, but I remember ***** saying something along the lines of, "if you have the extra power in a computer then using Vista is fine." (He said this because we were talking about the requirements of Vista). But in response to that..what's the use of using Vista with a powerful computer if it's going to ruin it. My netbook runs XP off an external hard drive better under clocked.

Anyways my rant is over, I'm downloading Ubuntu.

Ill second that. Been using Ubuntu for a few days now and I love it. My only complaint is that I did a kernel update and never knew you had to reinstall my nvidia drivers after each kernel update so I spent a few hours swearing at it for starting in low graphics mode over and over again.

Only happens if you use the drivers from the nvidia website rather than the ones in the repository (The offer better performance btw ;)).

On my Fedora box, after every kernel update i have to re-compile my wireless drivers (madwifi). It's quite annoying, but a fab OS)

Why dont you just save the drivers into a folder, then copy then and install from the copy, that way next time you loose your drivers they will be on the desktop?

I have never used Ubuntu so sorry if this wont work :P
